As above but you can have it 'set aside' to enable you to sort it out before it becomes final.

What do you mean by launches?

Is this just at the application stage or have you received the judgement?

Not even to the application stage yet.
Have received a lawyer's email over charges for disputed services (I did not use the service). With the threat court action if I do not pay. I googled CCJ, and will go and chat to the CAB about it. I was a little concerned with bank accounts being frozen.
I shall not pay and so am looking to ensure lock-down on any windows.

Then you should have nothing to be worried about. Sounds like they are just scaring you into coughing up.
Mind you if they spent some £s on a solicitor ..

Just checked, it's a real solicitors firm.

Have you requested 'proof of debt'?

Im not an accountant or a lawyer but If I was in your position my first step would be to request a copy of the contract and any relevant invoices.

Have they chased you for the money before getting a solicitor involved?

ETA - at my place of work we get these kind of threats all the time, we want to pay, but the companies involved seem to be unwilling to provide invoices & proof they have completed the work.

It might be a real firm or it might be a desk in the corner of a debt collector's office with it's own headed paper and telephone number.

On topic, they need to have got Judgement to be able to freeze a bank account and that assumes that they have your bank details in the first place.

Yes they have.

They do have the details. Am I bunged if they go ahead? Also, would they be able to ask the bank for associated accounts if I decide to close it?

This sounds similar to something I've been / am going through.

To make matters interesting (read: b*stard stressful) I'm looking for a mortgage in the next few month.

Insurance company cancel insurance (car was written off) They (or the finance company) request the remainder of the term be paid, that's fine. I ask I pay at the end of the month, after i've been paid, they agree.

Over that month they send two letters informing me I have to pay up, at a cost of FIFTY F*CKING POUNDS! Upping my bill by one hundred pounds.

I tell them these charges are unreasonable. They throw the case straight off to a collector. I contest the charges again, and the collectors take it back to the finance company. No resolution, so the collectors threaten court.

I pay up.

Is it me, or is this pure f*cking evil?

And how will this impact the chances of getting a mortgage?!

(sorry to hijack the thread)

If they do issue proceedings you must submit a defence - ie why you do not accept the claim - and make sure the Court does not give them judgement. without judgement they cannot get to the bank account. If it comes down to a simple disputed debt, the court will not want to be involved so should throw out the claim provided you can provide evidence and the claimant cannot. Like most things, it is far easier to prevent judgement being given compared to putting it right after the event.
