Hi Guy,
I'm 37 and my pension isn't doing much so I'd like to start investing money now so that I can retire without depending it. The trouble is that I'm not from the financial world and need to find an advisor who isn't going to pull my pants down! I've been looking at things which offer 15% - 20% returns but need to find someone who actually knows what they are one about. Has anyone any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

The only advise I can give is based on the fact I opted out of a pension and invested in property - commercial in my case.

Currently my portfolio is giving me 18% yield which I'm more than happy with yes

Edited to add, there's a small mortgage on one building so I suppose currently the yield is less than 18% but on the assumption rent stays the same once the mortgage is cleared that's the minimum I'll get, and if rent increases that yield will only get higher.

My advice would be very careful and get proper advice. Schemes offering 15 to 20% need to be approached with caution, there was a wine investment with recently went bust.

...and several property portfolio based investments promising glowing growth that have been proved to be scams.

But what is these schemes were under written by Lloyds? Does this not eliminate some of the risk? Excuse me for being a bit green, I'm new to investing and just finding my feet

Have you got an example?. I can imagine a wine scheme might have the wine itself underwritten by lloyds, that wont help though if it goes bust.

I'd be very wary of any scheme offering double digit returns, everyone would be doing it if that was the case.

You are not going to get 15-20% returns without significant risk.
