Nursery personal accident insurance........
Discussion
So, the kids start nursery in the new year and we are being asked to cough up £10 per child per term (£60 per annum) for personal accident insurance.
a) Is this normal to be charged in addition to the nursery fee?
b) Is this a fair price?
c) Is it possible to insure them myself?
I had a quick scoot round the interweb and it seems that purchasing personal accident insurance on your kids doesn't seem that normal.
Dont get me wrong, of course I will get them covered. I'm just thinking that I could probably get a better level of cover for that money.
I would have though the cost should really be included in the nursery fees (they are not cheap!) but I have no idea what is 'normal'.
Thanks in advance

Sounds random to me - never heard of it from friends in London or up here in Scotland...
I would be very sceptical about the nursery generally!
Well it is a Montessori that has a very good reputation and I've been to look round and it seems very well run in comparison to all the others I looked at. I have seen the policy schedule (from Marsh) which all looks correct and proper. It just seems a bit odd to me.I would be very sceptical about the nursery generally!
Would public liability cover me if my nippers hurt one of the others? Maybe this is what the cover offered is for? It isn't compulsory.
Just so you know before you read this , I am in the PA business...
Most private schools and some nurseries include this for free in their fees (although I guess they could be "hiding" the cost). Certainly for independent schools it is very common but wrapped into the fees not an extra. I have never heard of being asked to pay for it.
IMHO Marsh are very reputable (I have no connection).

I used to own two day nurseries. Built them up from start. Very rewarding businesses and run properly can be very stable in any market. Parents need decent childcare, fact of modern life. Ended up with 175 children on the two, absolutely wonderful if, like me, you have a mental age of about 3. Loved it.
I set the up with a nursery teacher I knew from sorting her husbands tax out. I was a Chartered Accountant then: retired now.
I an very doubtful about this "insurance". Some businesses make every effort to achieve maximum return from customers. I doubt the proposal.
