I have just had a couple of fixed term accounts come to an end at 3.55% and have been looking around for the best rates so I can move the cash.... best I have achieved is 2.5%

I have a couple more accounts coming to an end in January and if I move the cash from these to 2.5% that means the average across all my savings accounts will be 2.78% which is pretty crap...

Do we think rates will be going down any further?

who knows.

You should be able to get 3% though, you can get that on cash ISAs.

Eactly what the government wants - your money is actually becoming worth less with you saving it, in real terms...so spend, spend, spend.....and leave you pension/dire future financial health to be someone elses worry.

I am already at max on the ISA's...

Looking around again, seems 2.5% is the best at the moment unless you cant to go with some obscure company...

If you can bring yourself to deal with them, the santander 123 current account is offering 3% on up to 20k.

and there lies the problem, would rather stick needles in my eyes rather than go through that again.

I'm with them (Mrs AF has been for years) and had no problems. I think the 123 thing is a market leading account.

You have to pay £2 per month for the Santander 123 account and it may be in their terms and conditions that they can increase this at any time.

In addition, it may be the case that the benefits that you could get could be decreased at any time.

I could be wrong on the exact figures but that's my generally feeling on the matter.

Yes, you are right, savings rates are poor at present generally speaking.
