Hi All, I have several pensions from various jobs I've held over the years. I inherited an IFA who looks after a couple of pensions from an old job who has given me some advice over the years, but I don't think is right for me. He's based a fair journey away and he likes me to go and visit him to discuss anything important - so therefore we have not spoken for a few years.

Is it feasible to engage an IFA who will work with me in the way I want (i.e. over the phone and by email) or is local, and can look at and manage my entire pension situation and help guide me in decison making for the future. Or am I stuck with this person forever? Sadly I'm not in High Net Worth territory, but could do with some good advice to make the best of what little I have stashed away.

Any IFA can work with you in the way that you want either by email and phone or, if you find one local to you, at face to face meetings. You would simply need to transfer the agencies of your existing plans to them so that they can advise you on them. By transferring the agencies the new IFA will also receive any renewal commissions from your existing plans or you could just sign a letter authorising your pension providers to provide him with any information he needs on your existing plans to advise you. However, this way he wouldn't be getting any remuneration from your existing plans so he would need to charge you fees (which he probably will anyway).

There will always be paperwork that needs completing and/or signing but this can obviously be posted to you.

As above, any IFA can do what you want - but they will only make money via picking up the trail commission on current plans, flogging you something new or charging a fee. So it's going to depend on how much you have, how much you'll do or how much you'' pay for it!
