Hi all, want to buy a couple of bonds. and I literally mean a couple.

I udnerstand their nominal valu is £100 right?
so where can I do that without paying any inactivity fees or massive broekr spreads?

All I want is buy a bond or two now, then again then again, preferably without haivng to speak to a broker and online.

Government bonds?

Most government / corporate bonds have minimum holding sizes which will be many multiples of what you are proposing.

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

It's amazingly poorly covered product in the UK....our US and European friends it's a very big retail product. I buy bonds (both corporate and government) for my SIPP and ISA's...you will get some fees that's the way of the world. Though you can buy Gilts at the Post Office...or at least you used to be able to.

I believe the OP is referring to the fact that bonds are issued at or close to the price "par"...i.e. 100.00

As you say though the minimum investment can be an issue...c.ertainly for corpoarate bonds issued in the Uk the minimum investment is generally £50,000 to £100,000...however in the US and Europe it can be as little as $1000 or Eur 1000.
