I have 3 pension pots at present - unfortunately none of which are final salary -

I have one with my company with scottish life - piss pooor performance but is safe as these things can be

one with standard life slightly better performance but still not good enough for my liking

another 'old' fund of about 20k transfer value also with SL which I want to 'gamble' with in riskier stocks

who would be my best option as a provider for my SIPP

The amount you have and what you want to invest in are two of the many factors to consider.

Most have a flat fee in addition to the underlying investment costs so unless the three pots are of a reasonable size may well not be worth doing at all and just use a single personal pension to tidy up instead.

Some providers do not allow all types of property investment or unlisted shares whilst others do. So what are you wanting to invest in?

Seek out an IFA who is fee based.

I use these people https://www.transact-online.co.uk/

They don't just procide SIPP's you can also keep ISA's and other investments on the platform. The downside if they only operate through an IFA but you probably need an IFA to advise you anyway and do all the necessary checks to get your pensions transferred.

The most important thing with a SIPP for me (apart from security) is the flexibility of investments....I work in fund management so invest in things that other people might no....US High Yeild Bonds, Chinese Remnimbi denominated bonds, shares on pretty much any major stock exchange in the world, ETF's and any fund from any fund manager you care to name.

You can also tranfer assets between your SIPP and ISA should you want to. Fees are £20 per quarter plus an annual charge based on assets.
