Hey guys,

Hoping someone can give me a quick yes or no answer as to whether the following is correct or not! I worked somewhere for 2 weeks in November 2011, and when I left I was given a P46 showing the total earned (something like £500) but no tax paid - apparently because I was under my allowance or something, and the HMRC system told the accounts people not to deduct any tax. Is this right? I was under the impression I should have had something deducted even though it was only 2 weeks! I didn't have a P46 before those 2 weeks work if that changes anything?!

Cheers,

Dom

Hi Dom - did you mean a P45? It is perfectly possible that no PAYE was due on that level of income.

Stupid me, of course I mean P45! Thanks very much mate, just wanted to be sure that wasn't wrong before submitting my tax return - id assumed it'd have something taken off, even just a couple of quid!

Cheers,

Dom

Nop, not if you were paid under the "Lower Earnings Limit" circa £5300.

As you are declaring it on your tax return it shouldn't really matter anyway should it, will all come out in the wash.

Would only be an issue if you had several sources of income being paid through PAYE and you weren't doing self assesment, that's when any errors could come back and bite you.
