Just put another £460 into bonds taking my grand total to just £1488.

I'm an averagely paid single parent so I'll never reach the £50k max unless I randomly win big which is not impossible but unlikely. hehe

£460 is more savings than some achieve and £1488 is a good amount, don’t be hard on yourself!

+1 to that. Also i find it amazing how fast savings grow, once you're in the mindset of putting money away here and there regularly.

+2 to that. It’s far better than nothing at all. Plus I find once you start you just want to keep adding to it, especially with premium bonds where the more you have the more chance of winning (well in theory!)

The rage withdraw is even more likely with smaller amounts. I’d be doing regular saver with higher rate than PB offers for amounts below £10k

The wife and I shared £500 on the max holding

A friend of my mum was complaining that despite holding £5k for almost 20 years she hadn’t won once , this month she won 1x£1000 and 1x£100

My brother and I have max holdings each and it's a running family joke that he outperforms me every month without exception. I decided to log this year for comparison. The one month he didn't have a decent win was March but still beat me.

Brother
Jan £100
Feb £225
Mar £50
Apr £600
May £200
Jun £425
Total £1,600

Me
Jan £75
Feb £100
Mar £25
Apr £175
May £150
Jun £125
Total £650

18 months of a full pot.

Month 2023 2024
January 150 150
February 0 150
March 25 100
April 150 100
May 75 100

July 150
August 50
September 100
October 200
November 175
December 200
Total £1300 (2.6%) £800 (3.2%)

Stronger first half of the year in 2024 than in 2023. If it continues at this rate it’ll be an improved return. Beats paying tax in a savings account but not much beyond that, good bit below the prize fund rate consistently though.

Big purchase coming up so not much time left in it to get lucky.

I went back further. Jan 2023 was the last time I got to have the monthly brag text biggrin

More interestingly, it was Jan 2023 the last time one of us drew a blank. The previous year saw us draw a blank on 2 or 3 occasions.

With an £11k holding I managed 14 consecutive blanks from Nov21 to Dec22.

Glad topping up changed my run of luck spin

Out of interest…yes it’s al random etc etc.

Is your bond spread similar between you and your brother? Ie has one bought blocks and one smaller purchases?

We got an inheritance so both put £50k in one go in the same month. I think his return is more on the better side of the scale from what I've seen elsewhere. If I look at my return, I've won £3075 in total which is 6.15% and averaging £83.11 per month. I've had 4 blank months since June 2021. The most I've got in any given month is £225. He's managed a £650, £600 and £425 this month which is great.

It's all random as you say but interesting to see the differences with pretty much like for like holdings. I've seen a lot on here who have big holdings and have a lot of blank months for example.

I have, in the past, managed five consecutive months with nil return on max holding.

As the posts above suggest I just think some people are unlucky. I've always had a st return on PBs, never anywhere near the expected average rate of return even with max holding.

I like to believe it'll all come good with a massive win, but of course it won't ...

Well done:-)
I had something similar this month. I'd left £75 in my account from about 6 years ago. I got an email last week to say I'd won £100!

Really pleased for her, not the slightest bit bitter about the lack of wins the past 6 months with my £9k in bonds!
