That's just odds though. You're more likely to win from a group of 10,000 numbers than from a group of 100
Indeed but does that mean " Fat Derek " was totally wrong ?!
Yes.
I checked mine too and all but one of my wins including last months £500 have come from two large blocks purchased. I buy some each month and these bonds haven’t won anything other than one £25.

Each bond has a separate and equal chance of winning it doesn’t matter if they’re in a “block” or not

The odds of rolling 1,2 or 3 on a die is 50:50 just like rolling 2,4 or 6.

“Random” doesn’t mean “evenly distributed”…

Which is what I said yesterday; but, that's not always been the case.

I read a similar article but it was an ex- agent who was a bloke and he said most of the £1M winners were already rich and the win wasn’t a big deal for them. He seemed a bit miffed about that.
Having new scanned the list of big winners, the vast majority hold the maximum £50k (or almost that many). If you are the kind of person who can afford to buy £50k of PB's then you can't be that short. In which case, yes, for a lot of people, £1M isn't that big a deal.
Exactly - and likely it's one bloke really with £100K, with £50K bought in his wife's name.

In my world, women can have their own money. Some even earn it by working.

I think what Sheepshanks means is that a household with £50k in PBs will most likely really have £100k.

I recall reading about it quite recently and I'm sure it said it isn't really random, but someone checks the results and certifies that "look" random.

My wife steadily wins 2x what I do, and we bought our blocks at the same time.

Our daughters have £20K each that their grandfather left them - one wins something most months the other rarely wins.

I suppose you could say that's random.

In my world they can too. I even know some. Not many though.

I have £50k and my wife has £50k. My £50k came from me and my wife's £50k came from her. Her £50k isn't mine and it never was.

Yes, that's exactly what randomness looks like. People famously identify patterns in randomness all the time.

Although I do like the idea that "someone" looks through five million prizes each month and goes "Yep, Bob, they look random to me."

You seem like you're trying to hit home a point. We get it, you're not a misogynist.

Lots of households 'pool' their money with one person handling the finances.

I always find it a little strange when married couples treat their money separately, but each to their own.

Hence the boards at casino roulette tables listing the last 20 numbers to hit.

Conversely get caught making a note of cards that have been played at blackjack and you’ll be out on your ear (the more high cards remaining the better for the player)

Yeah, exactly, that's the difference between random and independent events and random but dependent events (as it's still random which blackjack card is next, but it can only be from the cards left in the shoe, so previous draws affect the odds of specific outcomes).

Neither option is wrong.

Exactly, using the household tax efficiently makes sense.
