I wonder what agent millionaire looks like when he turns up to tell you that you’ve won the big one? Pinstripe suit and a bowler hat surely

Interesting that 14 years ago ns&i themselves recognised that £1m isn’t that much.trickywoo said:

I read a similar article but it was an ex- agent who was a bloke and he said most of the £1M winners were already rich and the win wasn’t a big deal for them. He seemed a bit miffed about that.
Makes sense as Premium Bonds are a conservative product. It's not scratchcard style.snuffy said:
Fat Derek is talking bks,
However, it has not always been bks. Previous versions of Ernie produced more evenly distributed numbers that randomly distributed ones. And since they were "even" and opposed to "random", you did have more change of winning with one large block of numbers as opposed to several smaller blocks.
So that used to be the case, but not anymore.
Being sad I check and see what bond number accounts for wins. However, it has not always been bks. Previous versions of Ernie produced more evenly distributed numbers that randomly distributed ones. We acquired the max in various tranches over the years but most if not all of our wins come from either the £5k or £ 10k purchases.
We have both never won anything from any Bonds bought in the hundreds block.
Just checked site and its tomorrow for the usual notifications.

That's just odds though. You're more likely to win from a group of 10,000 numbers than from a group of 100We acquired the max in various tranches over the years but most if not all of our wins come from either the £5k or £ 10k purchases.

Therefore, sell you smaller groups and buy back, so you get 1 big block of numbers. That was the thinking, but now it no longer holds true.

Having new scanned the list of big winners, the vast majority hold the maximum £50k (or almost that many). If you are the kind of person who can afford to buy £50k of PB's then you can't be that short. In which case, yes, for a lot of people, £1M isn't that big a deal.Gassing Station | Finance | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
