There's also a cost to waiting - if you sit on your hands for a month waiting for a better rate, then it needs to be much better or you lose out overall.....
I did a quick calculation on how much I'd lost by starting an ISA at a fixed 1 year 2.4% 2 months ago verses what I could be getting now at 3.7%. Perhaps I should have waited, but you have to get off the pot at some point...

I'll be the same regarding a longer term Bond I want to start once I get some money through. Hoping there are still deals at 5% for 5 years by then, though I'm also debating splitting in half and putting 50% in a 1 or 2 Year bond incase they jump up to 7-8% and I'm sat looking at 5 years being 3% below.

Whatever I do, I'd advise to do the opposite though. laugh

Two year mortgage rates at 6.5%.- implies that could soon be dwarfed
Unlikely I’d say, forward rates coming back down following latest BoE comments

If it's of use to anyone, I noticed on my HSBC banking App that their Online Bonus Saver is now 3% variable, but for existing customers. It drops to 0.5% any month that you make a withdrawal however. Details on their website:

https://www.hsbc.co.uk/savings/products/

I'm sure this account was a paltry 0.25% or similar a while back as I'd moved money out of it ages ago. It stayed on my banking App as I couldn't find how to delete it even though it had zero money in the account. It's unusual that a bank has increased the rate on an existing account rather than do some kind of reissue.

beer Good spot, thanks. Near enough to instant access for it not to lose you too much money if rates increase elsewhere. Like everyone else I'd moved a chunk from Chase > Marcus > Santander for the 2.75. Whilst there's nothing else close, it's definitely worth putting a part of that into the Bonus Saver.

Ah, doesn't highlight that on my App, just the rate which caught my eye. Still it might be of use to some readers.

HSBC - you are really spoiling us with your £10k limit!

You can’t even open a savings account from within the App. as far as I can see - it should be possible with a couple of clicks…

I opened one of these, and it opened online immediately but i just received (via email) my "welcome pack" and it says the interest is 1.3% including bonus!! I'll have to contact them, cheeky feckers.

That's a bit sneaky; I just had a look on my App and it's still showing 2.99%. I'm waiting to see if I get my access sorted to the Santander account as per the OP of this thread, nothing in the post yet though or email.

Ya, the online portal shows 2.99% to me, so i guess their email was wrong.

And I’m still waiting. All I’ve had is the instant email on initial application and then, 10 days later, a holding email to say they’re busy processing.

Nothing in the post yet….

Booooring..!

There’s a huge abundance of other offerings that have bettered both of the latter across the last year, many of whom have onboarding journeys and servicing just about as good that just don’t seem to get considered.
Interesting to note that a lot of them now offer better rates to existing/loyal customers rather than they do to new ones.

Maybe they have realised that a new customer costs them more to setup and service than an existing one?

Got bored waiting for Santander. Opened the Sainsbury’s 2.75% account pretty much instantly.

Eff Off Fund moving from Chase to Sainsbury's for now (worth the faff of moving for the interest difference in my view - c£550 interest difference on the £85k FSCS limit). I’ll
Then look to see where we land on semi-locked in deals.

I gave up and went elsewhere for a better rate, done online in ten mins.
I bagged one but they want photocopying and snail mail etc - not even happy with a fax! If I was going to photoshop a doc printing it afterwards makes it HARDER to detect changes FFS... I just cant be asked as have too much admin in my life as-is. What did you get instead?

No wonder Chase made it difficult and blocked me from 'over £25k daily' my own money when trying to transfer - driving me ballistic! If they would have moved quicker they would gave kept more onboard... Binned.

6 months at 3.2% with Atom while I see what's happening with rates etc.
