Bit of a non story but I fail to see how it is a mistake, I mean I have been quoted 3 times that by one company and I didn't feel the need to tell the BBC neither did half of PH when they got quoted a similar £99,958 or thereabouts to insure a car

Yet again, another moron buys a car without getting an insurance quote first.

Salford is one of the areas that we've managed to generate MASSIVE premiums for..

My wife, whilst working as a trainer here, has managed to regularly generate premiums of in excess of £90k..

Doesnt say what car it is, would be exsessive on a 1.0, but is kinda possible if is a "quick" corsa woth big wheels, body kit, ICE ect ect.

And as said, suprsied by the number of people who will "assume" what the insurance will cost.

its made the BBC? blimey - slow news day then...

..heres the local paper link: http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s...

"The AA said it was a broker with 20 insurance companies on its panel. A spokesman said: “The quote he received is clearly ridiculous and this should not have happened. For that I apologise.

Historically, we have always asked our insurers to quote as often as possible so that we can, if necessary, offer appropriate terms for our customers.

“In practice, this has meant that some insurers have quoted very high premiums which don’t necessarily reflect the risk, but because they don’t really want the business. They therefore quote a price that has little chance of being accepted.

Nothing to see here.... move along hehe

There should have been a rule in their quote logics to arrest the display of such a substantial premium, but, insurers work the same as any other trade, if they don't want the business they simply price themselves out of the market..

This was on the local news last night, and the Co-Op (I think it is) is offering cheap insurance if the new/young driver is happy to have a 'spy' box installed, so they can check on speed, acceleration/braking etc and adjust the premium accordingly.

Or something like that, wasn't really taking much notice.

The AA quoted me £10,000 on an old Renault 5 with my mum as the named driver. They say the quote was not supposed to come up, but it sounds about right from my experience with them.

Quote - "I was amazed because I was expecting to pay £3,000, £4,000"

I was pee'd off when Insurance was around £300 his age. I couldn't wait to drive but doubt if I could have ever justified paying those prices.

I posted about this yesterday in GG

Was funny as I pulled into the office car park and nearly ran the news crew and jake down as they were shielded by the security hut and interviewing him in the middle of the bloody main throughfare in the car park biggrin

Thing is he is actually a really nice lad, his dad has worked in our purchasing dept for years and they are decent people, but it seems to have gone viral and everyone wants to interview him hehe
