"You will not be surprised to hear that the events in Japan have changed my view of nuclear power. You will be surprised to hear how they have changed it. As a result of the disaster at Fukushima, I am no longer nuclear-neutral. I now support the technology."

A surprisingly well-balanced article - not something i would ever have expected to be associated with George Moonbat..

Oh dear, now to be seen, by followers, as a "false prophet"?

Well done George, it took the destruction of a large part of Japan and untold deaths for you to open your eyes? couldn't you have just read a book?

Just think of why there is a dearth of Nuclear Power in the UK, why we are twenty years behind France and facing real danger in the following winters as we fail to meet demand. Because of you George, you and your beloved, ignorant and lazy Greens whipping up fear of another Chernobyl, you utter, utter cretin

The comments are hysterical the yoghurt weavers are really really hacked off.

I always find it much easier to agree with greens when they talk sensibly about sustainability instead of running around screaming saying the world is going to end.

Will i think about using my car less when you run around screaming that all the polar bears are going to die and the planet will be consumed by a giant hand of god snowy fireball. NOPE

Will i use my car less if you talk about reducing our reliance on middle east oil YES

pretty sure the japanese deaths are due to the earthquake and wave, maybe the muppets can ban earthquakes ?

the nuke plant has killed maybe 5 and suspect a few more in total if radiation poisoning is taken into account as the piss poor design, with no seperate safetey pond in the ground to save money

Only one person has died at the nuclear plants, at Fukushima 2, and that was because he was in the crane when the earthquake stuck and was fatally injured (not by radiation).

AFAIK the plant operators have been very careful to monitor workers' exposure to radiation and I would be very hopeful that there will be no long term consequences for any of them. They weren't throwing chunks of graphite back into the core a la Chernobyl.

I hate Monbiot. As others have said, he could have reached this conclusion from about 10 seconds of research particularly if he'd looked at the consequences (or lack of) at TMI. I think his bullst has ceased winding up normal people because everyone just ignores him, so now he's out to stir up controversy by winding up the greens.

I see Monibot as nothing more than a self-serving, self-aggrandising attention we – he will write/say anything if he thinks it will get him noticed. He has no real conviction about anything, except getting himself noticed and talked about – no better than Z-list ‘non celeb getting their kit off….

The comments are priceless, several acolytes are turning on their messiah hehe

I have to admit I find Mr Monbiot a very irritating little man. The level of hypocrisy the man displays is staggering, however I have to hand it to him here, he has caused more upset in those of a more left-wing bent by this comments, than any number of right-wing bloggers/journalists etc etc. ever could.

If they (the Green, left wing anti-nuclear lobby) attack Mr Monbiot using the usual tactic of rubbishing his credentials and attacking him personally, then it calls into question all of the comment Mr Monbiot has made that they agree with.

It's very amusing that many commenters are moaning that he doesn't know what he's talking about, and that he needs to do some research etc etc rofl

Welcome to the darkside George, now we've got you on-board with nuclear power we can start working on getting you a proper car with a nice big V8 to go with your massive, half-empty, fk off house in the country. biggrin
