Saudis mobilise thousands of troops to quell growing revolt
Discussion
There is an Egypt and Libya thread, so I thought I would post this up as a Saudi one.

Who knows what will happen if it goes the same way as the rest has.

They gave it a shot during the last election there but were cruelly silenced by the state. Not sure they'll be brave enough to try again just yet.
Bravery will be needed, no doubt; but I think the key will be ultimate sacrifice. This will be the unfortunate price some people will have to pay, and I think some will be prepared to pay it, or at the least, take the risk. It's the only way, and I just can't see the people being prepared to miss the rolling opportunity. They have seen variations of what is required from 'relatively small losses' in Egypt and Tunisia to larger scale destruction in Libya, somewhere on that scale they will weigh up whether the gains will be worth the effort and I think they will rise up. Cliche I know, but the Genie is truly out of the bottle; no longer can governments keep a sufficiant lid on news and information spreading; and contained within that information is 'the message and the method'. It will be tragic, but it is seldom anything else when people have to free themselves from tyranny.I'm out here just now, supposed to be a protest on the 11th but everything seems pretty normal for the time being.
ETA: Qatif is on my doorstep pretty much, I was going to go through tonight to get a pizza but got caught up at work. Maybe I'll get a delivery instead just in case.

that might be one possible result.
Reality will probably be different and a whole lot messier
I am hopeful it will be resolved without too much bloodshed - with luck the West will put some real pressure on to prevent Civil Wars.Reality will probably be different and a whole lot messier
But then I am an optimist..

It doesnt end at the pumps, if Saudi Arabia collapsed it would have an incredible and devestating effect on a global scale.
Isn't that what they want us to think? Old oddly dressed men who like to ride camels say: 'make sure you support us and keep us in power otherwise god knows what will happen'. Western leaders 'yup we agree, thanks for pointing it out to us'.A change of leadership will not mean the collapse of the country.
Anyway, I doubt it will happen any time soon. At least not until the current King dies as he seems to have a lot of support amongst his subjects.
I think MTV, 24 hour news, youtube, facebook, phones that do everything and easier travel has changed things immensely in the world.
I think those things are what are making these protests/uprisings/revolts happen.
People in those countries can see through the BS, can see what life is like in other places and they want what they see.
