Gunman was a national of Kosovo - rather ironic considering what the Americans did to stop the genocide there and help the formation of a new nation.

That's gratitude for you. I take that back, these types have no appreciation for nation anyway, only a twisted view of a religion. frown

ABC News Report

It appears that he was, indeed, some sort of extremist.

He's going to have an uncomfortable few days ahead of him I think.

To be technical about it, I wonder what would cause it not to be a terror attack?

The FBI cannot be "leading the investigation" in Germany. Assisting perhaps. If they are in the lead, they would have had to be invited. Was it on the U.S. base when it happened? That may be an angle.

Nevertheless, I digress; I am sorry for those killed and their families.

How about Obama "Making an unscheduled appearance", as if this could have been scheduled.

Jim - it was outside Terminal 2 at FRA, so not on the US base AIUI.

Outside of Frankfurt airport on a USAF labelled shuttle I believe. USAF has OSI, they don't need to get the FBI involved. I imagine the OSI folks are not going to be thrilled about Holder's boys showing up...

In this instance I think Jim is criticising the ABC news report and not Obama.

Unbelievable - how ignorant are they of their recent past or how twisted in perspective that muslims from that region can turn on those who went out of the way to protect them from disaster, in effect changing not just taking sides. So bitterness over Iraq, Afghanistan or (support for) Israel now overrides the gratitude to those who sacrificed to let them live. FFS banghead

I wonder what the motive was. I can't help but think it was a religitard fundie nutjob, but who knows. Either way, they need to put him in a room full of squaddies for 10 minutes.

Amazing - I was in Bosnia in 93, part of the early team that went in.

Met up with a muzzer a few years ago that was ranting about the West and how we were all emotionally and physically corrupt - I mentioned the Balkans and what went on and what was sent in to help and he went completely blank. Didn't have an answer, recovered 'his wits' and started ranting again.

I honestly wish you could round them up, put them in a field and b...

The FBI will be necessary because this happened away from a USAF installation and it involved persons outside of the USAF - ie the shooter. OSI primarily investigates criminal matters within the USAF, although they may well get involved in this case in addition to the FBI.

OSI has jurisdiction off base as well. I was taught to shoot by a retired OSI agent and he had some very interesting tales. One or two were murder investigations that included more than the military and were resolved off base.

I can only think of one (well two, but I'm not a conspiracy theorist) reason why the FBI may be involved this early - they already suspect an ongoing terrorist threat.

Of course, knowing the media, they may have been told that "Federal Agents" were investigating. To the media, all Feds are FBI just like all guns are Glocks.
