So, that's item number 33535354384864323243219093953576726070 in the evidential bundle for the trial of the question:

"Is Gordon Brown a stupid ?"

Don't you have to be British for a knighthood?

I don't blame him for blocking it. A snub for a snub!

Why does Steve Jobs deserve a Knighthood? What has he done for Britain?

Labour started the trend IMHO of giving out OBE's through to Knighthoods to anyone with a pulse totally devaluing the honour. Pointless now.

Didn't Greenspan get one too, kind of a honorary one so he was not called Sir Alan Greenspan.

Mrs T gave one to Ronald Reagan as well.

Terry Wogan was knighted a while ago but CAN use the "Sir" as he took out British citizenship.

He should never have blocked it because Steve Jobs should never have been considered to be given a knighthood! He isn't even British!!!

Sheesh, we should really offer knighthoods and other honours to people who helped in the Australian floods or in Christchurch. I know they aren't British, but they're still the Queen's citizens. I'd rather have a brave rescue worker as a knight of the realm than some doo-hackey American who invented the worlds most irritating MP3 player.

You don't have to be British to receive a knighthood.

However, you cannot use the term "Sir" unless you are British or British Commonwealth.

I am not really that worked up about whether he should have received it or not - it's just the reason why it was blocked by Brown - for not wanting to speak at a labour party conference. I assume that if Jobs did, he would have got the knighthood.

Most, if not all, of the Commonwealth Realms have their own honours systems, some of which are recommended by the respective Government and some of which are in the personal gift of the Queen.

Not as a consequence of the "K", but I think anyone can style themselves "Sir" if they like...

Note that if you we having this discussion with BBC employees present the words "Britain" and "British" would be banned. In place of both would be the word UK, used as both our country and nationality.

I pointed this out to the Beeb and asked why they did not rename themselves the UKBC! No reply.
