Despite being a confirmed Unionist, David Murray (Glasgow Rangers owner) is backing Alec Salmond and the SNP in the upcoming Scottish elections since they're the "best choice for Scotland". This may sound fairly trivial but, to a certain element of the population, the 'party line' of the two major football clubs in Scotland will very much dictate their voting. This will very much help the SNP's campaign I believe...

If you base your vote on what your football club says then you shouldn't be allowed to vote at all, imo.

Agreed.

However, the UK is chock-full of retarded inhabitants who will follow this sort of "thinking"

I know many Scots who do not want independence yet will vote SNP because they want them in power in Hollyrood. It's quite logical in some respect - Salmond and co and very good at blackmailing Westminster and eventually getting what they want (when it comes to budgets etc).

Which is a massively short sighted viewpoint.

Predictably, Labour are having a fit about a businessman backing the SNP. Never mind the 150 leaders who backed Labour in 2007.

Anyway, Murray has a number of interests in Edinburgh that depend on the Lib Dem/SNP council, including the potential purchase of the £50m Princes Mall for £2.60 if land reforms go through at Holyrood. Not at all related I trust. wink

I wonder what the reaction on Follow Follow was though!

For all their faults, the SNP absolutely have Scottish economic development at the forefront of their policies. Probably what Scotland needs in this economic climate, despite some of the negative environmental impacts that will almost certainly ensue...

When a well known person, celebrity, sportsman whatever, publically endorses a political party I instantly decide they are a wker.

And what way will Celtic fans vote? Is Gerry Adams standing in Scotland too? He needs to collect the full set.

If we all agree that only a moron will vote one way because their idol does so then it is fair to assume that the celebrity is so vain but stupid to realise they are only reaching out to dheads or they know fine well what they are doing and are acting in a way that is non-democratic. They can do what they like but I will not respect them for it.

YOu can not like them for it, but it is not non-democratic, it is very democratic, forcing people to vote a particular way or ignoring the vote is non-democraticbiggrin
So called celebs publically joining or endorsing a party is hardly here or there for me, some do it for genuine reasons and have brains, some do it because they believe the party line, like many 'every day 'types, so because they think they are doing good and giving back, ho hum it's all fine.
