I want to go to watch some of the Olympics, what with it being a 'once in a lifetime' event that it's being held in the UK. However I can't shake my concern that The Games are a massive and obvious target for a terror attack. I think that if I bought tickets this worry would spoil my enjoyment, so it's putting me off.

What do you guys think?

I'd be more worried by the wallet raping when you buy a can of coke at the event.

I'm more worried about the hijacking of the TV schedule by the games.

Tbh it didn't occur to me to be concerned before you mentioned it, but now you have I've raised my threat level from Meh to Pffft.

If (and it's a big if) the loonies manage to organise anything it'll be small and you're unlikely to be affected, unless they manage a dirty bomb in which case you'll need to avoid London for the duration.

al-Qaeda couldn't organise a bunfight in a bakery. Look at their "bombs" - curry powder and hair dye.

If they can't even manage to get proper, reliable explosives into the country then the probability of them getting the machine guns and ammo required for this much-hyped 'Mumabi style attack' are very slim indeed. As for a dirty bomb rolleyes forget it. They're a bunch of amateurs.

Stop worrying, go to the games and have a great time.

I think you should take it easy on the old paranoia there.

If you change your behaviour because of the potential for terrorism, you've already been terrorised. I'm hoping to go to watch some of the Olympics and have no fear of any terrorist incident.

More chance of dying in a horrific car accident on the way there. Grow a pair.

Really?

I mean, think about what you are saying there, and consider just how irrational it is.

I'm really looking forward to missing the Olympics, and wouldn't dignify the appalling waste of money that the 'event' represents by attending anyway. My only worry is the way it will be all over the TV and other media.

I expect the BBC's collective nipples must have exploded with delight when they realised how much licence payers' money they could waste on it.

this 'Dirty bomb' business is a load of crap

what would they use that is a radioactive metal powder that can be spread far and wide by an explosive, whilst not being mostly melted into lumps by that same explosion?

and how far could an explosion spread it? a backpack bomb? spread it, ooh, yards?

a massive truck bomb, with a few hundred kilos of radioactive material that they've managed to put together without leaving a trail of dead terrorists with radiation sickness, might scatter it two hundred yards?

maybe they'd go to chernobyl and get a few tonnes of radioactive concrete and grind it up into dust

whatever they got they'd be better off just walking around scattering it than blowing it up

and even then, there may be a slightly higher risk of certain cancers for people who hang around the area for a while

This can't be a serious post.

If it is then you have serious anxiety issues.

It's being hosted in Stratford, East London - I'd be more concerned about getting mugged or having you pockets picked or worse case, caught in the cross-fire of a drive-by shootingsmile

It's the 2020 Olympics that have me really worried.
