On the one hand I feel sympathy for the girl's plight. She obviously has major food 'issues' and there's a strong argument that people in her situation are in a vicious circle of eating because they're depressed, which makes them bigger, which makes them more depressed, which makes them eat more, etc.
On the other hand, I can't help thinking that my own dignity and self-respect would, much before I reached 40 stone, make me think
"s
t, I'm massive. I won't eat that third cream cake today and I'll haul my big ass down the gym"

I suspect she is lazy and needs constant motivation and pressure to look after helself but surely she must have a "feeder" that's supplying her with enough cake to make this happen? Isn't that child abuse?

I'm a fatty but I'm also sensible enough to put the fork down now and again and go for a walk, at 17 I would have been at the gym twice a day. Still it's bound to be everyone else / society that's to blame for this, not the parents or the girl in question.
She needs help from a proper specialist with psychology and eating disorder experience.

And the strict 1,500-calorie-a-day intake that Wellspring nutritionists prescribed has long been replaced with the old demons of cake, chocs, crisps and endless loaves of bread – washed down with bottles of Coke.

"Breakfast is usually a bowl or two of cornflakes with two slices of toast and two glasses of Coke.
"After that, I usually try to help mum around the house, but I get very tired and out of breath quickly at the moment.
"I'm only managing to get out the house about once a week when I try to go to town on the bus. Of course people stare, but I don't care what they think any more – I'm used to it.
"We have fish and chips for lunch quite often and usually I eat two portions. Otherwise, it's sandwiches with six slices of bread and crisps.
"I find snacks harder to resist as the day goes on and I often eat two Snickers bars at a time. At night I eat a main meal, then more biscuits, crisps and chocolates as I get bored.
"Afterwards, I feel terrible as I know I'm letting myself down, but I don't even care what I look like. I'll just put on any clothes that fit me."
I don't doubt that there is some degree of mental issue here but ultimately it's self-destruction, slow suicide by pie. Advertisement

So she smokes, eats 2 snickers bars at a time, but can't 'easily' afford the gym?
And 'The State' is meant to help her? Sounds like she has had more money spent and opportunities given than the average person gets in a lifetime.
Who is paying for all the pies, it must cost a fortune to eat so much.
Spend the money on our troops and let her burst!

Send her to Afghanistan and use her as cover for a tank or two.And 'The State' is meant to help her? Sounds like she has had more money spent and opportunities given than the average person gets in a lifetime.
