Airgun owners - lookin.
Discussion
According to reports I have read, on 10 Feb it will become necessary to secure an air weapon so as to prevent access by under 18-year olds. The only safe way to do this will be to put it in a gun cabinet.
I don't think many people know this................
BTW, it's a £1000 fine if not complied with.

So you think it's a bad idea for airguns to be kept in a secure cabinet?Maybe we should get rid of the secure caps on bleach bottles?
Put aspirin back in bottles of 100 rather than small quantities wrapped in foil?
Allow petrol to be bought in lemonade bottles?
Get rid of ABS, seat belts and crumple zones?

How will the BiB know you have an Air Gun?
If you have a firearn you have to have a licence and it is registered.
As the BiB don't have a scooby who owns an Air Gun how are they going to check?

I bet this is so when they are already at some sort of problem it will allow them to remove things like this which maybe they cant do currently?
i doubt we'll suddenly see a rash of airgun busts!

The main point is how is Joe public supposed to know about it. It's the same scenario as the Brocock pistol fiasco. Most owners did not know they had become illegal and as a consequence only a small percentage have been accounted for. Also as those pistols were never required to be registered, the owners were untraceable and did not give a toss that they were now banned. If you have a firearn you have to have a licence and it is registered.

Any chance of a link?
Sadly, yes.http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/media-centre/press-re...
What a pointless waste of time and effort. This will achieve nothing that a locked gun bag/case and/or trigger lock won't do alreday. Either of those will stop children just "picking up" a gun, any more determination by the child and they'll get it anyway.

Put aspirin back in bottles of 100 rather than small quantities wrapped in foil? Yes please.
Allow petrol to be bought in lemonade bottles? Again, fine by me.
Get rid of ABS, seat belts and crumple zones? That would make UK model cars more expensive, silly.
This does seem a little ridiculous.
The law amendment is clearly targetted at the ability of a minor to carry an airgun, not the ability to use an air rifle.
Which is odd, as there is no way in hell anyone, under 18 or over, who could figure out how to charge, load, remove safety, and actually fire my gun unless they were shown how. They could carry it around without ever being able to fire a shot. It's also very obvious to anyone that it's an air rifle, not a proper rifle.
So whilst my gun is very safe in that the gas cylinder is round a mate's house, the rifle is always depressurised before storage, and the magazines are often so safely stored I can't f
king find them when I want them, the fact my rifle isn't in a locked cabinet means I'm breaking the law?
Good job I can have a chat with my neighbour to keep it in his shotgun cabinet with the proper toys...
