what are the political, economic and legal issues currently in doing business in iran?

i know they're doing nuclear crap and so on.. but if anyone has any input that would help, it would be great

i am doing a essay on iran at the moment and might be going to iran as a part of my course (hopefully not though!)

It's possible to do business with Iran, but you have to clear with with HMG first. Not as tricky as it sounds

Have a look on DTI and UKTI websites, eg http://www.ukti.gov.uk/export/countries/asiapacifi...

Maybe give DTI and or UKTI a ring and actually speak to them.

When you do your essay, spell Iran with a capital "I" wink

Currently there are some sanctions in place, and it's hard to get trade finance because the Iranian banks are banned from doing business in the EU. There's a list of the sanctions and sanctioned people and organisations on the HM Treasury website.

For what it's worth, having done a lot of business with Iran over the last couple of years, you'll be hard pushed to find a population with a better business ethic. Everybody from Iran that I was in contact with was very moral, cultured, and kind. The country is also supposed to be beautiful.

Very good friend of mine worked for UKTI for about 10 years stopping bad things going out to Iran, so if you have any specific questions, I can ask him...

But yeah its pretty much as above, sanctions etc...

Like someone else said, 'why not?'

Don't believe what you read and hear. You might find yourself very much enlightened by travel there.
What do you think they will do? Behead you, you evil westerner! biggrin

Just because some idiots in power here would love to bomb them (think about that!!).

But don't try to do business with major corporations or banks in the US thereafter.

Got some friends who just back and absolutely loved it.

I really want to go. Certain things about Iran, and Tehran in particular, really appeal. Like the mountains being right next to the city, for example.

or all of the Hillman Hunters.

cheers to the person who posted the link, already knew about that website though but thank you anyway!

'I'ran sounds like a interesting country full of different perspectives regarding international business and the more i research it the more i find the media have presented Iran slightly wrongly but rightly in other points such as their nuclear activity.

And the Iranain Government don't supply weapons and money to terrorist organisations either rolleyes

Don't mix up the people with the Government. Over 60 democracy protestors have been hung so far. Raise your voice and you're toast in Iran.

America supplies money and weapons to terrorist organisations too, and America has thousands of nukes. Whats your point?

Everyone in the west dislikes Iran because its the boogey man that the western media has been portraying for the last 30 years, simply because Iran refuses to suck America's cock like everyone else.

They have free and democratic elections which they do not blatantly fix.

They do not kill protestors in favour of the party that certainly did not actually win the not-at-all-fixed elections.

Sigh. Go read up on Containment.

And also watch the film Lord of War and pay special attention to the end of the film. Sums it all up.

And the Ayatollah definitely doesn't only allow people he likes to be on the ballot paper.

Don't get me wrong, the Iranian government is mental. I would not be surprised if there's an uprising there soon, as seems to be the fashion throughout the Islamic world. But the people are proud of their nigh on five thousand years of history and are in the main quite sad at the way their country has developed since the revolution.
