I must say I don't think so. I can't see where any improvement is going to come from. What is there over the horizon that is going to one day arrive and make everything better?

Cheer me up and convince me that there's going to be a big turnaround and that we will eventually get back to where we were a few years ago, when there seemed to be a bit more money to go round,

No.

Because they were never as good as most of us - whether we admit it or not - were led to beleive.

I do honestly beleive the credit crunch, in conjunction with the very significant changes in global trade and politics, has cause a pradigm shift in the outlook.

Yes. One day you'll be dead and won't have these worries.

Frankly, no. The glory days of the UK are over, and we are on a rapid slide towards becoming a 2nd world nation.

There may be (/will be) occasional small upturns, but the future is bleaker than the past. Alot bleaker.

What? Do you actually think Labour and their Union Communist backers are going to have a lighter fluid and matches party? Ask Lord Fatso of Pies.

It isn't going to get better in your lifetime,

Life is like a computer game, the levels get harder and harder and eventually you die.

Well, unless the other passport is for somewhere off-world, I don't see how that is going to help.

One can only hope that time travel is finally perfected in the near future so people who cling to this mythical past when everything was better and peace and love reigned, when Labour was simply something you did and everybody was so much happier can go back and live as happy as bean bags.

Or, go to a place where people genuinely suffer, starve to death and die of diarrhoea, malnutrition and disease daily. See families ripped apart by yet another conflict that never seems to end.

Then come back knowing that we really do have it very easy in this country, get on with life knowing it certainly could be worse and smile for all the good things that we do enjoy. There are many many good things but if you're so set on seeing the bad bits, you miss out.

They said that in the 70's too. Then Saint Maggie came along. Britain is still the 6th largest economy in the world.

This, 100%. Things are genuinely not that bad people - compared with absolutely any other time in history, our lives are almost laughably simple. Look at the things that consume our attention: people getting drunk in town centres, what size house our neighbours are building, which vacant celebrity is sleeping which which other vacant celebrity...with very few exceptions, every country in the world has seen a vast uplift in quality of life from the poorest upwards which is showing no signs of slowing down.

All of our current political parties are too concerned with empty policies that actaually produce nothing other that keep up appearances.

We need a party with balls that will throw away the PC, Fluffy, EU written rule book and look after the UK first.

I wish I could take some comfort in that. However, I think that the UK today is just too divisive, more so than 30 years ago. The more I see and read in the news, the more I think that the UK really does have a huge problem, from society to economics - if someone was brave enough to do the modern day equivalent of what Thatcher did (and there is no-one today that would), things would get a lot worse (breaking the fever) before they got better. Even then, it may not be any good, as they who are supposed to act on our behalf have already handed over power to the EU. There are no conviction politicians anymore - look at Mandy (although not strictly an elected member) - fked Cadbury over and more workers on the dole, but he managed to get a sweet deal for himself from Kraft. As long as this st is tolerated, and third rate politicians are rewarded for incompetence verging on treason, and the nation as a whole put up with it, it will continue in a downward spiral.

It seems that people are as easily manipulated as ever, be it environmentalism, giving up more powers to other countries, and allowing the ‘ruling’ class to stay in their jobs even after they’ve been caught with their undeserving fingers in the public tax pot. The whole rotten system makes me sick.

Probably going to happen as well in the next 10-15 years.

So how would a modern 'Maggie' help then? Her lot weren't exactly saints when it came to sleaze and jobs for the boys either.

We'll never know, will we. As to sleaze, I think the current shower make the headlines of the 80's and 90's look very tame.

Agreed, with one proviso. This current lot may well be as radical as the Thatcher mob. Gove really is taking on the teaching unions, the NHS is being given the shake up it has needed for decades, Pickles seems to be having an impact etc etc. Give it time before judging. I do hold a scintilla of hope. Can easily be scuppered if the LibDims wimp out though.
