So far this week the Metro newspaper in the morning has run a stories about 7/7 every day and the Evening Standard has also been running stories. Why is this still news five years after the event.

I agree it was a terrible loss of life, but it was five years ago. The survivors as far as I have seen have picked up thieir lives and moved on.

I work down the road from Aldgate Tube and the area got bombed by the IRA in the past. Hell the Gherkin is built on the site of one if the IRA bombs so why do we have these stories in the papers every day.

Just let it go, move on.

The inquests are occurring at present, that's why it's in the press continually.

This isn't about the inquiry, its first hand accounts of what happened. We know what happened it was all over the news five years ago. I could have walked out of my office and seen first hand the aftermath but was warned by the police not to leave the building.

As this is the people giving evidence to the inquiry.

I don't believe the inquiry is reading the papers for evidence.

Fine give evidence to the enquiry but why splash it all over the papers every day. Have the enquiry, report on the results, thats news.

At least it approximates to news, more than BBC and Sky seem to do at the moment. Real time coverage of Cameron addressing Nordic business leaders in the headline slot? That really had me gawping this afternoon with baked beans dribbling from my gob. Lies and scaremongering about flu, which is no worse than any year in the history of human civilisation and better than most? And what about the st over Christmas, when the headlines consisted of some waster button-holing Christmas shoppers and asking them what they were doing. "Well, I'm shopping for Christmas presents you fking numb ." I could go on but I need to go watch the news.

There are many tales of bravery and selflessness coming from the proceedings of the inquest. These are stories I haven't heard before, as I suppose a lot of those involved kept quiet but now must offer their experiences to the enquiry, so I guess that type of thing is newsworthy. The BBC news website is covering it.

I am interested in the results but I am sure people using those stations every day would not like to be reminded of what happend every day.

The results, ill give them to you. Nutters get on a train and detonate bombs. We will never know why they did it as they are dead. It matters not what other people say, speculate or claim, we will never know why the bombers did it.

I wonder if the unemployed like to be reminded how fked the economy is every day? Just because something makes you uneasy doesn't seem like a reason not to report it. You could just not buy/read the newspaper?

Not much chance of them getting bombed going to work then is there?

I agree so I am going to buy another book. But if they start putting snipers on London Bridge Station, I am NOT going to be happy.

Why do we need a public enquiry in the first place? Who are we planning on blaming?

Not about blame.

More to do with seeing how things like this can be avoided in the future or how the services can be better prepared if they do.

Precisely. For example, it came out today that all of the doctors at a meeting at the BMA (about two doctors to each victim apparently) didn't have any medical equipment to hand so they were using tablecloths as bandages. And a week or so ago they were talking about the lack of stretchers in the underground.

Perhaps as a result of the inquest it'll be suggested that we need to address those issues.

And the issue of communications.

The LU radios didn't seem to work deep underground.

The emergency services radio system was overloaded and near collapse.

The 999 despatch centre was unable to cope with the work load.

We need to learn and attempt to make better plans for the next time, be it a terror or purely civil disaster.

As for the media coverage, the 1st hand evidence makes good news copy. The human element.

What issue? It's the BMA headquarters! It's an admin block not a first aid refuge!

It's a bit like wandering into a Vodafone call centre and berating them for not having a phone you can buy in the building!

I'm sure you know this already but these two newspapers are basically the same newsroom, mostly PA feed stuff. You should find a different news source for some balance smile
