Well another chance for cmd to prove his mettle on this, bit will he??

"It has since emerged that Gill Rider, 54, a leading member of the Cabinet Office and one of Gordon Brown’s senior mandarins, was a non-executive director of De La Rue on £43,000 a year when bidding for the deal began."

That came out at the time. And as an ex-employee of the company involved, I couldn't possibly comment on it. wink

Seriously though, it's just the same old thing. Sales people can sell people things they don't really need. And I will leave it at that.

I think it's about time we stopped knocking other countries for taking jobs from us, when the government is sending them away - truly shameful.

It's not the government. Sadly this all comes down to EU regulations - they wouldn't have been able to stop any company within the EU from bidding provided that the security requirements were met. I imagine they were "quite" carefully worded though. If memory serves, there wasn't that much recruitment abroad for this, as the factory in Malta was purpose built for making e-passports only a couple of years ago and still had capacity to spare.

The old manufacturer of the UK passport was 3M, if it makes you feel better. wink
