I disagree wholly with what you are insinuating. If you are referring to the Pete Postlethwaite thread let me ask you this question.
How long after the death of someone is an acceptable period of time before stating disagreement with beliefs they held in life?
If Mr Postlethwaite was a friend or relative of yours then I understand your reasoning, and I am sorry for your loss.
If however this is not the case, what is your complaint? Pol Pot's politics were a bit off and he's dead, is it disrespectful to disagree with him?
For the hard of thinking and those that enjoy taking offence, I am not suggesting Mr Postlethwaite's politics or beliefs were in any way similar to, or as abhorrent as, Pol Pot's. I am using Pol Pot as an easily recognisable name to illustrate my point.
Edited because there's always one

You should have used Stalin as your example - or Michael Foot. How long after the death of someone is an acceptable period of time before stating disagreement with beliefs they held in life?

We all hold different values, I cannot understand why an individuals statement of request which reflect the debate area should be debased in such a way as demonstrated so quickly on the previous thread issue. To me it seems extremely odd that people react this way, is it that the keyboard is so detached from the person being written about I wonder? I have expressed an opinion in a previous post and I certainly wouldn't use that particular post to further air opinion on the matter. Of course what I have stated will be exaggerated, taken out of context and generally belittled, as is the want of SOME posters in here. Thing is I am not concerned about expressing my beliefs, values and opinion in here. I am convinced that SOME posters enjoy writing and posting silly ranting comments, much like the angry driver who sticks a middle finger in the air before driving off in haste.
Do you really feel that its OK to verbally trample over a persons beliefs who has recently died? In the fullness of time those beliefs may be used in a debate as general points, what is a decent time scale you may ask, well assume that the person in question was your close family member and how you would feel about it. For the record I am not in any way related to any recent deceased person discussed on this forum.

Yes I do feel it is OK. What difference does it make if they are dead ? I think lots of people have views very different from mine, some are alive some are dead. Some I am not aware of until after they died when their life and beliefs are in the public eye more.
No reason not to discuss them.

For example, I think people have been terribly unfair to Alexander the Great - especially since he isn't around to defend himself.

The deceased cannot defend their beliefs. That is the principal reason for a period of non-confrontational discussion to elapse post death. In a nutshell, it's bad form. It's not a written rule, and is much more a matter for individual conscience, and it's as simple as that. This is the reason I said what I did. It annoys me that so many bawl and shout about how bad this country is, and, regarding declining values, I felt I needed to say something. I am not imposing my values on any individual, merely stating my beliefs.
Above is a corrected version of your previous post. Yours contained a plethora of punctuation, spelling, and grammatical errors. With the advent of txtspk, it's commonly suggested that amongst today's youth standards of English usage have declined. But you aren't a young person, you are middle-aged, which appears to contradict that notion.Re. the post, the subject makes no sense. People have been 'come(ing) to bury Caesar, not to praise him' for a very long time. How does 'burying' Postlethwaite display 'falling values'? It's nonsense, that's what it is.
