Well, not doomed but possibly looking at a near future of freezing temperatures. Man can cope with warmth, but bitter cold is a killer and much harder to live with as we've seen through December just gone.

I posted this link here as I thought some PHers who can't stomach the climate thread would be interested, and perhaps unaware.

Current solar activity indicates that we may be heading in to a little iceage similar to the Dalton Minimum around 1800, or worse the Maunder Minimum around 1650.

The last solar minimum should have ended last year, but something peculiar has been happening. Although solar minimums normally last about 16 months, the current one has stretched over 26 months—the longest in a century. One reason, according to a paper submitted to the International Astronomical Union Symposium No. 273, an online colloquium, is that the magnetic field strength of sunspots appears to be waning.

…

Scientists studying sunspots for the past 2 decades have concluded that the magnetic field that triggers their formation has been steadily declining. If the current trend continues, by 2016 the sun’s face may become spotless and remain that way for decades—a phenomenon that in the 17th century coincided with a prolonged period of cooling on Earth.

It's the calm before the storm.

Tin foil hat time

Cycle 24 has already begun and will be the biggest we have experience. Magnetic pole shift will already be taking shape.

Signs of the begining of magnetic pole shift will be extreme weather and earthquakes, dying honey bees, millions of fish dying and birds falling from the sky......

Expect the end December 2012 when unleaded hits £5 a litre.

SpaceWeather.com says this about spotless days (days without any sunspots):

2010 total: 51 days (14%)
2009 total: 260 days (71%)

So there were more days of activity last year. Someone (who admits to driving an electric car to be 'green') trying to scare everyone?

This is an interesting one though because how can you tax the sun's activity?

Just watch them, they'll probably start sacrificing members of public to appease the Sun God and create a 'Department for Ritual Solar Climate Change Sacrifice' to mismanage it,and add another surcharge to energy bills in addition to current 'environmental surcharges' laugh

More bird deaths, this time in Sweden. Are these birds giving us an early warning sign?

This interests me quite a bit. Remember we have MUCH better technology now to keep track of sun spots, old records were made from telescopes from Earth, ie, if we had been using that technology then the sun has been spotless for much longer.

Can't be that bad then, humanity managed to survive them, without central heating.

Is this the reason we've had the winters we've had and the jet stream has moved south?

And you can clearly see the rebel force 'hiding' in the sun's glare.
