I'm not sure I have 'leanings'. When I was of university age the only thing I was passionate about was Linda Ronstadt. I wonder if that would show up on a brain scan.

Would be a more convincing thread with a correctly spelled title and working URL.

2/10.

Must try harder.

Interesting article, but I always take these sorts of findings with a pinch of salt, if not outright skepticism.

However, I can see where a link between the size of the "amygdala" - a primitive part of the brain - and right-wing views could be formed. From an evolutionary view, the reptilian/primitive parts of the brain would be ruled by things such as territory, hostility to outsiders, pack-mentality, etc - and I can see how these might translate to right-wing views. Or maybe not.. interesting nonetheless.

The amygdala isn't afaik held to be part of the innermost primitive 'reptilian' areas of the brain but of the significantly enlarged and more advanced mammalian brain, and has been described as being concerned with "experience-based recognition of danger and for responding to this according to past experience".

In terms of not voting Labour, make of that what you will wink

Info from Wikipedia

Lefties

A bigger or more active ACC would indicate:
early learning and problem-solving
error detection
anticipation of tasks
motivation
modulation of emotional responses
evaluating the degree of error
response to rewards and losses associated with errors
reward-based decision-making and learning.

A reduced or damaged Amygdalae (i.e. compared to righties) would seem to indicate:
social and emotional deficits
overreaction to all objects
hypoemotionality
loss of fear
hypersexuality
hyperorality, a condition in which inappropriate objects are placed in the mouth
inability to recognize familiar objects and would approach animate and inanimate objects indiscriminately
reduction in maternal behaviors

Righties

A bigger or more active Amygdalae would indicate more:
memories associated with emotional events
fear response and behavior

A reduced Anterior cingulate cortex (i.e. compared to lefties) would seem to indicate:
inability to detect errors
severe difficulty with resolving stimulus conflict in a Stroop task
emotional instability
inattention
akinetic mutism

Can't see much correlation with Left or Right politics at all in that lot.
