I TOLD you I wasn't going to vote (because it was a worthless waste of time), and trusted you lot to get on with it, content with whatever you decided even though the obvious tory preference was a bit dubious to say the least. (And no, Adolf, that DOESN'T mean I'm an anarcho-communist etc etc).

So you're left with it, and you end up empowering that bloke wotsisname - y'know posh sappy looking geezer - along with another another wee junior doctor out of Casualty sort of guy who I've never heard of to "help" him.

Next, I'm driving into work and hear one of the supposedly serious players in this mess described as a "silly old fool" who should be resigning or kicked out! And I'm sure he, or someone who looks very like him, was on that Bruce Forsyth dancing game show, along with the horrid fat wee tory troll. And he's apparently one of the BEST ones you chose?? So if he's one of the best and he's a fool, what are the REST like? On top of which your fabulous tories are borrowing or spending even more this month than even Coco the Clown ever did, and now, for whatever crazy reason they've dreamed up, VAT's to go up in about a week's time!!

No WAY are you lot getting left to sort this voting malarkey again!! Next time NONE of you are voting, and that's that!!

(Well, ok. I REALLY don't care. And it does have its funny side. So you can have one more shot. Looks like it'll be soonish too.)

Agreed. This wouldn't happen in The People's "Democratic" Republic of Flashmanland.

This voting nonsense would be outlawed for the patent nonsense it is.

The reason we ended up where we are is your fault. If all you dopey ditherers had made a decision for once in your life instead of running away so you could blame everyone else later, we might have had a different result. You're like the 40 year old virgin who never quite got round to a shag because he was afraid the first girl might laugh at his willy! smile

This.

Pipe down OP.
yes

Added to which, hundreds of thousands of brave men and women have given their lives in order to afford you the luxury of democracy, and the right to vote.

With this in mind I'm sure that you must feel very proud of yourself, and others won't consider you one bit ungratefull. rolleyes
Have you heard of a book called Plato's Republic? If you have, remind me what it says on democracy. And if you haven't, it's your prescribed book over Xmas. So answer the first sentence's question when next term begins. Until then, remember. "Seen and not heard". Now get back to class and stop upsetting the rest!teacher

O the Labour man thinking blaming solves the problem. And I DID make a decision. Go and vote, or watch Coronation St.

As to the "willy" analogy....I don't quite understand it. Could you, erm, explain its relevance to the rest of the subject?

I don't think a "different result" would have upped the game, really. That's one of the reasons 35% of us didn't bother. But it doesn't change YOU, whatever size your willy is, from having voted in "a silly old fool", does it?

How do you figure that voting is a waste of time?

So, by your reckoning, we should have one party in power, a party who could do what the hell it wanted, with total inpunity, and no danger of ever getting ousted from power because elections didn't exist?

There are countries like that. China, Burma, North Korea, Zimbabwe, etc, etc.

If you don't like democracy, move somewhere were there isn't any.
Hmmm. Isn't that ("move away") what someone was suggesting YOU do on another thread? I take it stung, and you seem like the kind of kid who remembers a sting.

How do you reason out these replies? This stuff in your 2nd para ( "by your reckoning......didn't exist"), how do you make this quantum leap of deducing my 'political vision' from my original post?

As to why I think voting's a waste of time......read the original post. That's one reason.

By the way, I see you may have an issue or two, so, don't fret, I'm not REALLY demanding you don't vote ever again. Honestly. Once you're 18, you can vote every time you feel like it. A lot of the people you vote for are funny anyway, even if they're a bit expensive.

Tell us more about Flashmanland? Are we using Wales as one large track? similar to the Isle of Man but only a bridge to cross to get there. I will quite happily run Wales for you and collect the track day money.

I'll have Scotland......providing I've got a mandate to hang the humorless!!
And yes, you WILL have to pay a huge surcharge for MY oil, although Wales can have a trackday discount deal....

Nice one im not paying any tax, we can build a pipeline from Scotland to Anglesey we will turn the existing track up there into a resort and a base to start and finish the lap of Wales.

Now you're contradicting yourself - you blame those who voted for the result, but then tell us it doesn't matter how we voted!

I'm happy with who was voted in. Unlike you I understand parliamentary democracy and I understand that I can't have what I want, I can only choose from the available options, which I did. There were two choices and we got the lesser of two evils. If they ever invent a political system where everyone can have exactly what they want, you'll be well away but until then I guess running away and hiding suits you and the rest of those who voluntarily dis-enfranchise themselves (perhaps going to vote clashed with Jeremy Kyle), but in the meantime please refrain from admonishing those with a little more social responsibility! wink

Read this through and 'yeah, I get it'. I even almost laughed but restrained myself just in time to a wry smile. Humour in here is thin on the ground so this OP statement comes as a welcome relief.

I blame economic and social pressure for most of the sour, angry attitudes. They don't like fun and they won't tolerate it. They see it as a personal attack on themselves which is why most of the bile and paranoia with which they respond is personally directed.

Can you imagine what it's like being a kid in a household like that? Or a teenager? All opinions must be narrow-banded into conformity with daddy's...or ELSE!!! Frightening, isn't it?

I think the saddest one in THIS thread is the one trying to drum up a bit of emotive gallery support for the notion that if you poke a bit of fun at politicos and the system, you're insulting the war dead. O dear! I mean, imagine you were in Afghanistan, and you asked Joe Squaddie, "Joe, how much has the idea of preserving the right for future generations to vote in a democratic society motivated your efforts in the current conflict", what response do you think he'd make? I think he'd laugh in your face. Worse, imagine you could actually converse with the spirit of a war fallen soldier who agreed that he'd been motivated to die for democracy and the right to vote in it. What do you think his opinion would be of our current crew of politicos and their antics? I rather think he'd think he'd died for nothing.

I'm also quite interested in the oft-expressed idea on PH that if you don't vote you are somehow excluded from holding any political opinion. That's odd, because it's pretty seriously undemocratic. There are 100's of reasons why folk don't vote. And actually if there was a REAL democracy, there would be no government, because aren't there more in the non-vote category than in any other single faction. Wouldn't the "non-vote" count 'win' in almost every constituency? Hmmmmm.

How do YOU think these narrow banded monochromatic vehement dogmatists and outright paranoid aggressors develop such tendencies?

And can't you just PICTURE VC in multicoloured silk jester's garb, cap and wand? I'd love him for my own personal "silly old fool"!
