Just heard on the radio that he has died. Only 61.

Two well known BBC reporters dead within 24 hours (The other being Tony Howard). frown

"I counted them all out and I counted them all back in".

A good, solid reporter.

"I'm not allowed to say how many planes joined the raid, but I counted them all out and I counted them all back"

The man will be part of our national history. RIP.

Sad news, part of my childhood and early adult life, especially the Falklands.

Very sad (clever journalist, as opposed the the 'think they are clever' journos).

Cancer... again.

He went into hospital just over a week ago - got infection apparently?

I was sad to see this, Hanrahan was very skilled. Sixty one is so very young to die; he and his family will miss so much.

Did he have an inoperable form of cancer, or was he victim of Britain's woeful cancer treatment?

He was expected to be present for the final Harrier flights last week but texted in to say he wasn't feeling well enough to attend.
