Gosh - another Daily Mail story.

Would PH news survive without The Daily Mail?

Can we have a new forum for Daily Mail stories only and keep the "News Forum" for real news?

Big crime family up there. I was a student up there a few years ago and remember reading in one of the local papers one of his relatives murdered some poor girl who they'd treated like a slave for a few years. Think she was starved to death and then beaten or something.

So this never happened - the newspaper article is a total lie?

Put your newspaper snobbery away, or find another "source" so you can gloat about how much better the BBC or Guardian or whatever is.

Or, you could just contribute to the actual story in the thread, as the story is likely to have a basis in truth.

Personally I think criminals should lose their rights at the door, but this is not going to happen.

Daily mail seems the only paper with proper news in it nowadays, namely the despicable state of crime in this country.

Guardian, Times, et al are preoccupied with navel gazing at rehashed reports and press releases into global warming and the state of the public sector. That isnt news, its an effrontery designed to deflect attention from the real issues that affect our lives. Our press, rightly, is ridiculed the world over. The 'broadsheet' papers are now little more than a circular for isolated and detached academics.

I don't see that it matters what you call him. As long as he remains banged up, who cares?

THAT was my point.

He's inside - out of circulation - not lilely to cause us any problems.

I'm no Guardian fan either - but the Mail is a disgrace. They should go out and find some proper news about things that REALLY affect you and me.

As much it hurts me to agree on anything with Madala - he/she has a very good point.
And if it doesn't bother you one bit - you are a part of everything what's so wrong with this spineless, cowardish, politically correct country...

You are, of course, quite correct.
This IS the problem! Nobody bothers, nobody gives a sh*te anymore. It goes on all around them but until it affects 'them' directly, then it is of no consequence. No consequence, whatsoever.

And we wonder why it is 'still' all going wrong?
And if you don't think so, then get ready for a hell of a wake-up call in the future (near future probably).

As those of my generation continually say, 'didn't used to be like this'.

It didn't either!

Don't mind whether the scum inside has to be addressed 'Mister', as long as he is inside? Oh dear rolleyes

Why not give him a weekly wage as well (above minimum wage - I hear that might be the case with some!)
Why not give him Sky TV? Nice wholesome meals. Latest comfy expensive mattress. Full free health care and emergency treatment if needed (no need to call 999 for an ambulance) ditto ditto ditto on and on.

Think if I was starting out my life again, the careers office could close down, I'll just go for being a crim.

It's 'us' who are in prison, not the scum.

This guy was certainly a big player

He had BT engineers on the payroll to track people down. He put kids from the estate into the police to work for him.

Still, does not deserve any special treatment from the officers in prison

eta: also read that there was a 90% reduction in gun crime in Nottingham when he was banged up

This story was in today's Sunday Times. Can't provide a link to it because it's a pay site now though.

O/T: Will be interesting to see how long 'free' web news lasts.

When I was a custody officer I tended to use first names, or on occasion Mr/Mrs/Ms. What you call someone does not matter one iota, as long as you communicate with them in a manner that enables you to get your job done.
Didn't worry me because I was the one going home and they weren't. It's as simple as that really.

Upon conviction for certain crimes, the prisoner should be at all times referred to as scum, piece of s**t, drain on society, waste of oxygen etc..
