Discussion
So given that there are couple threads running discussing the D-notice and the ethics of releasing data it is nevertheless a fact that the info is released now and the contents will be discussed.
So keep the thread down to discussing content only and the ethics of release elsewhere as I can see this is going to be longer than climategate.
I'll start

Interesting take on British Indian Ocean Territory where a quite blatant attempt is evident to utilise an 'environmental scheme' to exclude attempts at resettlement.
It seems to show that governments are not above using devious methods of achieving their own ends.
Loving the comment about visting yachtsmen being sea gypsies. Seems they are not going to be that politically correct with what they say in these docs either.

One of the cables that stood out for me, amongst a whole bunch of relevant Middle Eastern related stuff, was the Dubai government made an emergency request to the US for 6 Patriot missile defence systems back in late 2009 as it appears they had intel that Iran was going to kick off at any moment.
Scary stuff that for us living here. Obviously we know that it isn't exactly a stable region but you do get numb to all the rhetoric and dismiss it.
