Hi forum,

I've recently been wondering what the general politics are on PH - some recent threads have leant heavily one way or the other, or just descending into 1 vs the other type arguements. I was wondering if it was because of the contents of the debate, or just because of the existing political leanings of the "PH massive"...

So, which way do you lean?

And in case you're not sure, you could always take the test.

If you follow any major political party in the UK, then you will be to the right.

So is a bit of a pointless exercise.

Well that was interesting - I'm libertarian right then.

No surprises there wink

Quite surprised that I seem to be almost centrist. I'll be getting booted out of PH at this rate as I seem to be evolving into a wishy-washy liberal.

I thought I was a bit more left than that but maybe not. I wouldn't scrap the NHS for instance.

At first I found my result on that test odd...

... but I think the point is that it's quite abstract in concept, and also that most left-wing (or, to be more accurate, pretend left-wing) parties in the UK are an embarrassment at implementation - i.e. it should not naturally follow from a premise of looking after your disadvantaged that you hand out money willy-nilly to anybody that wants it.

(Also I think in a lot of cases you can "look after your poor" a lot better by giving them a kick up the arse and sending them out to do something productive with their lives.)

Here's how I feel / came out tonight - but note some curious and silly questions where NA would be useful.

I'd like to see the weighting/ formula used to credit some of these - it's as if they are there to v. obviously force an increased portrayal as old fashioned right wing (e.g the most important thing for children being discipline? Or important for society to have people to look down on? FFS)

Still. fwiw:

Is the question how I see my political leaning or how others see my political leaning.

All I can say is that lefties think I'm right wing and right wingers think I'm left leaning. I guess that puts me in the middle ground.

I have my opinions on political matters, some veer to the "left" and some to the "right", no political party fits exactly into what I think, depending on their current stance they may fit in more (or less) with what I think. It also means I could never be a poltician as I could never be a member of any of them. The problem is, and I've seen it here, that if you lean one way that means you lean 100% that way, this is absurd. I also find it absurd that someone can agree 100% with all of Tory/Labour/LibDem policies. This also stops many politicians saying what they really think for fear of not "towing the party line".

Oh it's the monthly political compass thread. smile

I haven't done it for a while, so:

Interesting that there are no political parties in that quadrant (mainly because to be there, they'd have to be actively seeking less power), which makes choosing who to vote for somewhat problematic.

Oh god, another thread that turns in to pages of these politicla compass things. I consider myself economically very right wing and fairly socially right wing, but invariably get a wierd result when I do this test.

Sorry if I've mad a bad / reoccuring thread.

The reason for it is that in general, the Fire union thread, and the ambiwlance on a tea break thread, along with the house prices, "all banks are bad", "we hate gordo", "tories crumbling" etc etc have all basically dropped to a left vs right thing disucssion, rather than the original topic in general. I admit I've joined in (I'm very anti union), but I had assumed that there must be a fair spread on here because of the way that no one sidee ever wins tha arguement - although my initail assumption has been shown to be wrong on this thread!
