Prescription charges to be scrapped north of the border. This devolution business is fantastic, think I'll be moving back
Jokes aside, whilst Westminster goes about abolishing certain universal benefits our friends in Hollyrood are doing the opposite (funded of course by money from London).

Means cuts will have to be made elsewhere (in Scottish services) when the Scottish Government publishes its budget for next year in a few weeks time. This on top of the decision earlier this year to postpone this year's savings until next year (i.e. savings over 2 years rather than 3 etc).
Whoever gets in next May is likely going to be in even deeper trouble than the Westminster coalition!

Can you explain the "funded of course by money from London" comment? Do you actually understand how devolved parts of the UK are funded?Prescription charges to be scrapped north of the border. This devolution business is fantastic, think I'll be moving back

Do not get me started on the revenue England has enjoyed from OUR oil.

Theres a reason Norways people stayed out of the EU. Without 'your' own navy 'your' oil would have quietly become the EUs oil. Just like the fish and everything else.Do not get me started on the revenue England has enjoyed from OUR oil.

Because the Barnett formula takes billions from where it is raised and gives it to the SNP to spend as they like.
Devolution works both ways, if Salmond and co want to provide free services that those in the rest of the UK have to actually pay for then how about funding it from scottish taxpayers?

It does work both ways. Both ways for them.Devolution works both ways, if Salmond and co want to provide free services that those in the rest of the UK have to actually pay for then how about funding it from scottish taxpayers?
One way, they win, by getting more for less
The other way, we lose, by getting less for more.

For Example...
English students are required to pay "top-up" tuition fees, while Scottish students are not. The legislation imposing top-up fees on English students passed by a small majority of 316 to 311. At the time opposition education secretary Tim Yeo argued that this low majority indicated that the passing of the law had hinged on Scottish MPs voting to introduce tuition fees that the Scottish students would not have to pay.

Obviously the Scots socialist leanings stop at about Hadrians wall.

Think they're only £3 at the moment - very affordable as it is.
Is that how much they currently are in Scotland? In England they went up to £7.20 an item in 09, not sure what they are now.whirligig said:
Yes £3 and just read the staggering statistic that "Around 92 per cent (68 million) of items dispensed in Scotland are supplied to patients free of charge".
And THAT is the main reason I think the SNP's policy of free prescriptions is a good one.So the responsible, working citizen has parity with the feckless.
