Just watching the rescue now. Amazing stuff. But I am intrigued as to how the order of rescue was decided.

It seems that the most vulnerable were not the first to be rescued. The first two or three seemed to be less so, including the one who was documenting the ordeal. Though those considered strongest are understood to be last.

Has anyone seen or heard mention of how the ordering process worked?

I was wondering how they had organized it?

I might have read it here, or from a link on here but IIRC it was something like thosr "okay" first, then the weakest, then the strongest.

Don't know anything about the logic though.

The strongest first as if there were a problem, they would be more capable in trying to solve the problem, and if necessary they would release themselves through a trapdoor in the bottom of the capsule and winch themselves back down the hole. Next the ill or unfit, as by then there would be a better idea as to if the escape method was working and less chance of a problem.

According to the BBC last night the first to come through were those who it was considered would be able to cope if the capsule got stuck. Apparently there is an escape mechanism built in if this should, God forbid, be the case.

I think they chose them based on who would look best in the product placement Oakleys and t-shirts.

The first group were those who were considered capable of dealing with any problems. So the first miner out had spent a lot of time in that mine and knew the rock composition well. He was the one who informed the authorities on the condition of the mine etc when they were first contacted.

The first group also needed to be in good condition physically (so they could free themselves from the capsule and winch themselves back down if necessary) - so they also needed to be mentally strong.

Next come the mentally and physically weak - once the rescue method is proven.

Last come the average lot - I believe the final person in the mine will be a rescuer.

Apparently quite a few of them wanted to be the last, as then they would hold the record the being the longest trapped.

Indeed - why do we need another thread? And why did you start this one after Al locked the previous (identical) thread you started, after he linked you to the main thread?

Prior to rescue, the miners had been eating a NASA-recommended diet. Not sure what that was all about. I don't think it included other miners though.
