If anyone was in any doubt about whether the moon landings ever took place, they only have to watch the excellent documentory 'In The Shadow of the Moon'.

The film taken by the astronauts on the later landings (15,16 and 17) is simply astonishing.

Major respect goes out to those nine remaining men who reached the Moon. bow

Sadly, thanks to the 'why should we explore space when we can spend money on polar bears' drivel, I don't think I'll live to see anyone else return there. frown

Looks better - but look at the footage from Apollo 17.

If we've been, and theres more technology in a mobile phone than the moon landings, why havent we been back with better cameras and stuff.

I, for one, would find it far more inspriring than a load of the egghead cave-dwellers sending stuff in circles in their hole in switzerland.

Don't start.

There are dozens of threads on this on PH going back over the years.

A mobile phone doesn't generate 7.5 million pounds of thrust.
A mobile phhone can't travel at 25,000 mph.
A mobile phone cant cross 250,000 miles of space
The technology in a mobile phone doesn't inspire (it does the opposite, in fact).

Rather than resort to inane name calling (with or without smilies) state your case and prepare to be shot down - in flames.

And? There was enough technology in the program to get it there.

I always remember one of the guys involved saying that given everything involved in a hoax, plus the fact the Russians had every instrument they owned trained on the moon, it was actually easier to go than it was to fake it.

Because after America won the race there wasn't a good enough reason to keep going the technology used wasn't up to creating a race for Mars, so it became been there done that got the T-shirt. Look at Concorde, has it been replaced with a better plane? No because the 60's and 70's seem to have been an era of doing stuff because they could, now stuff can only be done with justification, oversight, an economic and environmental benefit etc.

Amazing the think we've been to the Moon 9 times & that the Moon Rover is still there although you'd need to bump start it or at least take a jump pack with you.

There are THREE Lunar Rovers still on the moon (Apollos 15, 16 and 17) and there are two remote control Soviet rovers (Lunakhod I and Lunakhod II).

There were nine missions that orbitted the moon and six that actually landed.
