Personally, I think the Job Centre employee had a very good basis, but worded his comment poorly, hence the "news" article.

I think the openings this potential employee could fill would be limited by the number of piercings/tattoos on show.

What say you PHers?

Yes, she's a minger... had better (I would hope you ALL have!), etc., etc.

Once met a guy who had a full face tattoo but his job was a cage fighter so it fitted quite well as it was quite intimidating..

The Jobcentre bloke was right though, alright, in some jobs it won't matter about tattoos or piercings, but a lot of jobs will be a no no straight away.

& before some veggie hyper-miling eco-warrior comes on saying 'but it's her lifestyle choice', I'll agree, it is her choice - but she needs to grow up & realise that 90% of people will judge her on her first impression, & most employers won't like that first impression.

+1 she needs to realise her actions carry consequences, in this case it means limited employment opportunities.

The jobcentre employee may well have been a little blunt about it but they certainly had a point - her lifestyle choice has repercussions and they include the fact that most mainstream employers will form a negative opinion of her from first impressions. I know if I were recruiting for a customer-facing role the in-your-face ink and piercings would rule her out straight of the bat as far as I'm concerned.
Now don't get me wrong she's perfectly entitled to make that lifestyle choice but she has to be prepared to accept the consequences - and that includes reduced career opportunities.

Running to the papers over this isn't a smart career choice either - while it might net her some short-term cash I think a lot of employers might think twice about taking her on now she has form for crying "discrimination"

There was a very rude lady on Radio 2 the other day, moaning about how she can't employ anyone with a tattoo (even if it's in an obscure place) because that 'type' of person will be lazy and arrogant. Now I'm not a fan of either piercings or tattoos but I don't immediately think those who have them are a certain type of person. That's just as bad as racial stereotyping imo. Shame the employment market works that way but I guess that's just tough st for those who decide to get piercings in their face or whatever.

She would never get employed here and i would not employ here.

If you work in a 'Professional' environment you need to look smart, presentable and approachable.

If you want a job you need to realise that, if it doesn't fit with your 'Lifestyle choice' then tough titty, what is more important, having a job, earning money and doing something or your 'Lifestyle'.

Outside work do what you like, in work you need to conform.

And thus does young Hayley learn that actions have consequences, not all of them welcome, fair and just.

People judge by appearances, and especially by appearances that are voluntary. This might not be right and proper, but all the wishing in the world won't change that fact.

Self inflicted. Wouldn't even get a job on the radio with a face like that.

She'll probably make millions selling pictures of herself on E-Bay for people to stick on the mantle piece to keep their kids away from the fire.

Even Oscar has more chance of getting a job than she does with a face like that!

I think she's far from unemployable. There are many jobs where one's personal appearance, including piercings and tattoos, isn't particularly relevant. Whether the subject of this thread is willing to accept that by her actions, she has constrained her employment prospects is another matter entirely.

Of course, if she's that arsed about looking however the hell she wants at work, she's free to start her own company.

Harsh, but I actually agree with that. She is unemployable in the eyes of most employers for no other reason than her own actions.

People having 'Lifestyle' choices is bks if you cant earn to have a 'Lifestyle'.

My preferred 'Lifestyle' is to watch TV and sit on my arse rather than doing 60hrs work a week.

But dont worry the state will pay for her, like every other vermin.
