GP on 475,000 a year
Discussion
It would seem that the top earning person in the NHS is a f
king GP, on 475.000 a year. Out of the top 10 in the NHS 7 are GP's. This is f
king ridiculous. How the f
k can a GP earn nigh on half a million a year.

k can a GP earn nigh on half a million a year2. Take some aspirin and rest it
3. I've no idea what's wrong so I'm referring you
4. repeat ad infinitum
OP that money will be probably because he's running a surgery, I would imagine, so out of that will come staff costs etc. Whilst they do earn an awful lot of money, the figures that get put in the press are somewhat skewed.

How dare they do well for themselves. Disgusting behaviour.
Well it is if its from taxpayers money. It is noticeable that a high proportion of those earning 'excessive' salaries in the public sector work in the NHS.You can always compare it to those who work in the city (in a variety of professional capacities) but the vast majority of public sector employees, GPs or otherwise, do not work in central london.
Those on the same level as a GP in a provincial town would be such people as partners in law or accountancy firms etc. Do you think they earn more than the prime minister?.

I'd have hoped that all manner of people earn more than the Prime Minister. As Politics shouldn't be a career choice.
The market for British trained health professionals is global.
We either pay to hang on to them (and one would imagine that the top earner is Director of a Surgery Group or similar) or we lose them, in the main, to the US where the pay is rather higher than it is here.
I wonder if it's this fella.

Who, through thinking and being sensible, has saved the NHS upto £6m a year.
£475K still seem like a lot?

Given that he would most likely have been on under £100k five years ago, yes.I wonder if that would have happened under the old system.
