A POSTMAN hoarded away more than 7,000 pieces of mail because he did not have time to deliver it, a court heard.
Matthew O'Connor told Blackpool magistrates how he was left doing unpaid extra hours every day in an effort to complete his round.
The 22-year-old said he had complained to his Royal Mail bosses but was told "just get on with it".
An investigation into O'Connor of Lauderdale Avenue, Anchorsholme, began after items of undelivered junk mail were found on a council waste tip.
The items were traced back to O'Connor and Royal Mail officials were sent to raid his home.
Once inside the officers discovered more undelivered junk mail and eighty items of normal mail.

So if I'm reading this correctly, out of 7000 pieces of mail he'd hoarded, only 80 of them were 'regular mail', the rest was junk? Sounds like he did everybody a favour!!

I can hardly remember the last time the postman delivered anything remotely important that didn't need signing for (and therefore collecting from the sorting office).
Would anyone here be remotely bothered if 'ordinary' domestic mail was delivered once a week?
Once a month would be fine, it is rubbish/bills anyway.Would anyone here be remotely bothered if 'ordinary' domestic mail was delivered once a week?
We had this happen to us.
A letter arrived from Royal Mail explaining a member of staff had been stashing mail.
It went on to say that the person had been criminally charged and they would try to get it sorted asap.
That week we received a bag of mail. Some of it was bills from several months back.
Not deserving of any medals.

Couple of postmen live on my road - they take this type of thing very seriously indeed. Recently someone was hording here and was given the boot. Both Posties mentioned this and how everyone got a right rollocking - its a legal thing and not just a case of not doing your job. Queens postal service and all of that...
