"A number of us have been raising claims of financial irregularity in the union and I believe we are now being subjected to a witch-hunt because of this.
"We will definitely challenge this decision, which has been made on extremely spurious grounds."
Mr Scargill has received wide criticism for arguing about the withdrawal of payments to him from the union.
It was reported in June that Mr Scargill's solicitor had written to the NUM to demand the reinstatement of concessionary benefits, which were removed as a cost-cutting measure.
However, union members were up in arms after it was revealed that Mr Scargill reportedly received tens of thousands of pounds in annual payments for a London flat.
Mr Scargill was given use of the property the Barbican area of the capital when the union was based nearby in 1982.
But the offices have been in Sheffield since 1983, leading many to question why he was able to continue claiming expenses for the rent and running costs of the apartment.

Slimey ste, isn't he.

rofl

Typical lefty union ste, causing huge amounts of trouble and financial hardship for the people who trusted him to represent their best interests, all the while he was just another loud mouth socialist, desperately trying to fill his pockets with the hard earned money of the working man.

Given the huge amount of damage he caused to the mining industry and all the communities, he should end his days on the gallows next to blair, winky and mandelson

Awaits halfwit to pop up and blame Baroness Thatcher for the damage caused by the unions resisting the need to modernise and cut the billions in government subsidies used to prop up the mining industry

Genuine question this, have we actually got any actual Miners left in this country anymore? If so how many?

Leader of NUM has awarded himself a pay rise from 42k to >70k is one of the issues aiui.

Miners have been so badly served by their union over the years.
They should have been sorting out the miner's pension which is frankly laughable.

I'm no fan of Combover Arfur though, was there the day he got nicked at Orgreave. rofl

I remember the miner's strike when I was at college and the majority of students and tutors were in support of them.

I was in the minority and there were some rather awkward moments.

I bet they, and Lord Benn, and the socialists must be looking stupid now.

We mustn't forget that mini cab driver who was killed.

Interview on R4 yesterday with a few parties here and it seem like trouble at mill. Two sides are squaring up for a barney.

As someone once said (may have been Ian Hislop) Scargill went into the strike running a large union and living in a small house, and ended it running a small union and living in a large house.

[Glenn Beck mode] Interesting that the BBC website would prefer to post a story on their front page about Cubans losing their cigarette subisdies, than headline this. I wonder why? [/Glenn Beck mode]

I'll also wager that if this story is reported on the BBC website, then there isn't a comments section.
Do you know what Mr Moneypit? You are spot on. Isn't that a surprise...rolleyes

Seeing as the NUM have now only 1600 members it's no wonder that they don't want to pay for a freeloading commie swine like Scargill. Time he was removed from existance anyway (overdue for at least 35 years!)

Looking stupid? Yes.

Feeling stupid? No.

Somehow they will blame this on either Thatcher or Cameron. And in their minds, no matter how fecking stupid their reasoning, they will be absolutely 100% correct. All part of the struggle 'brother'.
Hence the word 'looking' rather than 'feeling'.
