Tomorrow someone else will be killed in Afghanistan and no-one will remember that the news on Saturday was of Karen Woo. She was a friend, a good friend. The sexiest girl I’ve ever met. Half British, half Chinese. The way she moved was totally seductive, but then she trained as a dancer. I first met her in my teens. I was part of a group of geeks, one of whom was going out with a dancer and we all got to know them. Her smile melted hearts. She dated Dragons Den, Dragon Richard Farleigh for a while. And she loved danger. Finding that there was no money in dancing she became a wing walker, standing on the top wing of a bi-plane at airshow.
Then she decided to become a doctor and quite late in life went back to study, taking A-levels and working all the way up to becoming a doctor.
We exchanged emails a couple of weeks ago, I was clearing out the medicine cupboard at home and mailed to ask if I could send the unopened steroids to her. She said that customs were too much of a nightmare in Afghanistan and they would never get through, but that we’d meet up when she was back.
I hope that by reading this you’ll not forget her when the news of someone else dying breaks tomorrow. But then I’m not writing it for you. Crying as I type I’m writing it as a cathartic process for me.

To the OP sorry for your loss. I live near to Wootton Bassett and have seen way too many re-patriations now and feel its a terrible loss of young men and women.

I spoke to her just before this trip and she assured me that she was travelling in a safe area. I was almost as concerned about how a stunning, petite girl coped with squaddies and she said she just mothered them.

I Picked up on this on Sky and was appalled, more so as these scum also killed 2 American and Six German Doctors as well.

Please accept my condolences, the risks the military run are known to them and accepted as part of the job.

People like this however are the bravest of the brave and the best specimens humanity has to offer, as they dont have to go there. Limitless compassion and selflessness rewarded in this manner is too depressing to contemplate!
^ that.

Why are people surprised the Taliban do this kind of thing?

Obviously its a great loss and even more so because of her skills, but we are at war with them are we not?

I have, yes its babaric, and given what they were doing its just so stupid and pointless of he taliban, but they have done things like this many times. Nothing that happens over there comes as surprise now, just a dissapointment at human kind I suppose

This news really shocked me this morning. I just can't understand the thought process that leads you to kill a group of people who turn up in your crap country to fix peoples eyesight.

BBC news was suggesting it could be a robbery/murder and the Taliban are just claiming it as their work - not sure if any truth in that.

Hopefully this isn't true...

Stuff like this makes me want to bomb the ******** back to the ice age.
But then that is no better a course of action.
An eye for an eye only makes the world blind.
What do you do though? frown

We should pull out of Afgahistan, close our borders to all visitors from that area, and let em get on with it..

They're just a bunch of tribal barbairians, and human life has no value to them...

I'm sick of seeing our soldiers coming home in coffin's.... and for what????
For nothing frown
I'm sure our armed forces & the charities that operate in the danger zones have an idea of the dangers involved, but that doesn't help when we hear reports like this.

SO sad to hear of such a selfless woman murdered.

Deliberately targeting foreign aid workers there to help their own people.

Amasingly there are people out there who will still blame these acts on the UK/US
