If you had a firend or relative that you thought was milking the benifit system unfairly would you report them to the authorities?

I have a relative (wifes cousin) that I can never remember working. She claims disability for a 'bad back' but still goes on regular holidays all round the world. Her and her husband have more disposable income than my family even though neither now work (he has a forces pension though). Almost everything they have seems to come from their benifits. Am I just jealous? No, I'm not jealous, I just dont think its right.

I beleive they ''play ' the system to their maximum advantage, and it irritates me immensly.

Would you report your relative or friend to the authorities on this kind of thing? There seems to be a justification in some parts of 'well everyones doing it why shouldnt we?'.

So would you contact the authorities?

And what of the authorities, should they not perhaps 'incentivise' the reporting of people that are scamming the system with some kind of reward system?

Dob in a relative of the wife?

I don't think so unless I want her half of the family to ignore me, never get invited to anything, them constantly nagging her about how wrong you are for her, after she leaves you they all line up to say how much of a violent man you were and you shouldn't have access to the kids.

But ignore me, I'm just a sourpuss, go for it thumbup

How would she know who "dobbed her in"?

What are you 'dobbing them in' for, exactly?
It appears that your complaint is just one of resenting the benefit system in general?
I say this as you haven't suggested that she might not be disabled.

If you are fit enough to go on holidays around the world, you are fit enough to work to earn the money to pay for those holidays instead of expecting other tax-payers to foot your bills.

Does he talk in his sleep, will he in a drunken stupor recount to the OH a funny tale about her family, will he tell a mate who he then falls out with?

I'd have no issue dobbing anyone in but I'd have to be damn sure the OH never found out.

No offense, but that's nonsense.
Steven Hawking has been on holiday and has to walk with his mouth.
Back to my point- there are loads of disabilities that our benefits system allows which the 'sufferer' would be perfectly able to go on holiday despite having.
It doesn't make it right. I disagree with it, and so does every working person, but it doesn't change the fact that you can't 'dob' someone in for earning more on benefits than you think they should be entitled to.

.
Last time I checked he also works.

If you know she has nothing wrong with her back but is claiming she does then shop her.

Depends.

As long as I'd never mentioned anything about my suspicions to them, then I would definitely do it.
I suspect you don't want it being traced back to you.

Stephen Hawking works, get's paid, and uses part of that money to enjoy his holidays.

OP - if you think the woman is not disabled, do something about it. Either that or stop getting annoyed about it.

This really. She says she cant walk to the end of the road most times. Hasn't held a job in 20 years.

But she went long haul to Las Vegas and Mexico this year for example, does all the sight seeing trips etc. Does this sounds like someone thats disabled? The authorities beleive she is disabled, and pay for her life, but theres no outward sign of any actual disability whenever we see her. Alright, she doesn't do 'football reffery-ing' in her spare time or anything like that, but their life is paid for by the system. Just winds me up.She does 'disapear' for several days at a time, and when asked, says she was 'laid up with bad back', but no one ever sees her in this state, she could just be away on aonther jolly.

Still, they've "paid into the system" all they're lives so I guess they're entitled to getting some of it back (oh, except she hasn't).

Just ring the benefit fraud hotline. Then it will be up to them whether to investigate her or not. Put the ball in their court!

Im not being flippant- that annoys me as much as you- I just don't really get your point.
If the authorities 'believe her' then this will be on the basis of medical reports. Even if you dob her in, they are still going to believe it more than an anecdote about her holidays from a distant aquaintance.

Further, even for an out and out spaz I dispute the contention that benefits can comfortably afford the recipient multi luxury holidays each year. I just don't see it.

FInally- if it makes you feel any better-the new government seem to have finally taken the commonsense view that women like this can still work and hopefully shell lose benefits as the result of it.

Wow!

Can I really have all that just by grassing up my wife's sister to the DSS?

At the very least.

And best you remain whiter than white for the rest of your miserable life.

Go for it.

They'll then assign someone on an hourly rate of £50 to watch her every move for 3 months solid.

Who'll pay for the investigation?

Not worth it. Also, her husband has a forces pension, from what I know, they're pretty god damn good pensions, and possibly with no mortgage, holidays are pretty easy to come by.

Interestingly, a mate of mine has lived the life of riley for years on the disability allowances he gets, he even had special dispensation to own a car at 16. And yet, he still manages to play golf every week, and go to the gym most days - does that sound like someone who can't work?

However, I certainly wouldn't want what he has, where's the line drawn?
