Yesterday was the longest day and we are getting up about two hours+ after sunrise wasting those hours when we could be having daylight at the end of the day instead.
This article suggests it would make life cheaper and damage the earth less if we stayed on BST and went to an hour forward/back next year.
Which would you prefer?

I would prefer to stay on GMT all year round, the sun should be at its daily zenith at noon. If you want to get the most out of the daylight, get up earlier in summer.

I've voted no change simply because the simpletons are arguing for the change to reduce CO2.

shoutIf you want more daylight get your idle selves out of bed you lazy sods!

Works for me and has worked for farmers for centuries.

Still light at 10pm is enough for me. Thats how long the pikey f**kers next door to me stay out in their back garden pissing up and making noise. God forbid if it didn't get dark til gone 11pm.

Even on GMT, many parts of the UK have the daily zenith well after noon.

Ok, a new meridian at about 4 west, split the difference. Point remains in principle.

I didn't put GMT all year round as an option because it is very unlikely to happen.

It's not just a helping CO2 and all that bks but it would mean lower electric bills as you would be switching on later and the street lamps would come on later.
As the article says when they tried it before road accidents reduced and the associated costs with that.
It must be the cheapest way to reduce costs.

Well if I can't have the option that I actually want, then I don't think I could give a stuff - I work my own hours anyway so it wouldn't make much difference to me.

May I point out to you lot that it doesn't even get dark for me right now. Can read the paper outside easily at midnight - 2am.

Not quite midnight sun but not far off.

:looks forward to Friday Midsummer Eve community piss up:
:also stocks up on headache/stomach pills for Saturday:

Yes, but in six months time it will hardly get light - wouldn't care for that at all.

True! But then nobody is on the roads, you get to drive for long periods of time without having to dip your lights and it's oh so slippery.

I want it to be GMT all the time as it makes the most logical sense.

Especially for me, living in Greenwich smile

Oh FFS not this again!

Leave it alone, it is fine as it is. Changing the number doesn't magic up extra hours of daylight...

I thought the idea was to 'magic up' more usable hours of daylight at the end of the day rather than sleeping daylight hours in the morning?

Wasn't it a war-time measure? From the same war that gave us tactics like "Daylight charge toward the machine guns"?

Just bin it and stick to GMT.

Don't care which one, just chose one and flipping well stick to it. The to'ing and fro'ing really messes around with my body clock and it takes ages to reset.

Gah!

They're all usable, just get your arse out of bed earlier.

Stay as it is.

For purely selfish reasons, I hunted for years to find my house so that my breakfast room caught the full sun at 8AM BST and my dining room caught the full sun at 8PM BST and I'm not prepared to adjust both my breakfast and supper.

The simpletons who wish for the Status-Quo are either Scots or missing the point.

We have a nine to five culture in UK. To use the available daylight more effectively, change to 8-4 or 7-3. All the evidence points to lighter evenings being overall more beneficial: Road Safety and economic benefits from increased use of after work time for leisure.

Scotland may not like it, but that is of no consequence, they could have their own time zone.
