Where were the Police when this maniac started shooting
Discussion
Having watched TV when a speeding/stolen car can be tracked and caught within 20-30mins
How come this bloke who shot his 1st victim at 5.30am then himself at 1.25pm
spend 8 hours roaming the country with a guns on a killing spree
A helicopter from the Liverpool/Manchester/Newcastle could have been there in minutes with a sharpshooter and took the crazed idiot out or even the army

Eh? The first phonecall reached the police at 10:30am, and they confirmed that they'd found the gunman's body just after 2pm. How does that equal 8 hours? How come this bloke who shot his 1st victim at 5.30am then himself at 1.25pm

His first victim that no-one knew about... so 8 hours is just wrong. Cut that to the 3 hours or so from the first public shooting.
Then you have to think about Cumbria police being a small force with a large and relatively inaccessible area to cover, especially initially when reports are coming in from panicking public so won't be the most reliable - where is he, where is he going, what's he doing, does he really have a gun?
The you need to consider whether we have police marksmen available to jump into a helicopter and start hunting people in the Lakes? Is that even a scenario British forces consider? It's a very rarely needed resource.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but the OP seems to be using "Hollywood-sight" on this one.

It was a particularly dim post.
BUT
The Cumbria police don't apparently have a dedicated air support unit.
Surely somewhere like Cumbria needs a helicopter, not only because of it's topography but also there is a fair bit of sensitive stuff up there. Now maybe if the speeding budget was pared down a bit...
