Well, it isn't quite law yet. But the intention is there. Good.

Even if it is a repost, it's worth it..

I heard CMD state that he believes that we need a smaller state and that the state works for the people - which means if he is honest and decent and true to his word, then more things like this will continue..

Or merely returned to a Home Office shelf, to be dusted off if a Government more receptive to this should come to power.

The 15,000 people who voluntarily paid £30 for a card since the 2009 roll out in Manchester will not get a refund.
Ms May said ID card holders would at least have a "souvenir" of the scheme.
rofl

You would be annoyed if you voluntarily paid £30 for one. Unfortunately you could only be annoyed with yourself.

All these people who are complaining it's been scraped forget that setting up a new ID card is a great time for Identity theft/ alternate IDs after all they can't be 100% sure who you are till you have the card, people won't be 100% what the card looks like, but will have been told the card is 100% secure. Thank god that someone has sat down and realised an ID card system will mean nothing a criminal or a terrorist isn't going to have that info as occupation on their card are they?

It was never about stopping crime or terrorism.

Agreed, all part of the usual Socialist control-freakery-experiment. Why do these feckers always want to have utter control over a populace?

She is quite right.

I often find that after a night out I have no idea who I am - it could be the booze mind, but hey, if I at least had a card I could find out who I am.....................

The reason the stupid bint is saying that is because she can't very well say - no, there is no real use for ID cards, we just p***d a few billion quid up the wall on them...

Good riddance to it, thanks new govt.

I'm not against ID cards, just against the promises/claims that were made by Labour.

I meant an ID card as in a driver's licence or a passport. It's just a card, it's not a legal requirement, it makes no promise.

The promise by Labour that their card would be 100% secure and foolproof is what I objected to because I believed it to be unachievable.

the id card wan't the problem, ie not like the french one... glorified NI card.

it was the massive ID database behind it, with loads of information, and the potentual to track/monitor every transaction used with it (there would be many - buy some wine, anything) to be sold to the highest bidder or peeked for fun, byhundreds of thousand of civil servants, or just hacked copied leaked.. don't say it isn't possible, (ten year in IT/telecoms on major projects - too many horror stories)
