Inspector Gadget does it again!
Discussion
His blog hit's the nail squarely on the head!
In our van this evening, we were discussing what the new regime might mean for policing here in Ruralshire, and we decided as follows:
1. We will now be allowed to call suspects “chummy” and “my lad” etc.
2. We will probably allowed to have “Christmas” at the nick again.
3. When a person tells us to f
k off and either runs away or tries to stab us, we will be allowed to refer to this as criminal behaviour, instead of excusing it by explaining that this is a totally acceptable cultural reaction to dealing with aggressive colonial authority.
4. Magistrates might actually grow some stones and send persistent criminals to prison for more than a few weeks.
5. We will no longer spend a fortune on campaigns apologising for things like slavery and the potato famine.
On the front line we expect to be left almost untouched by any swinging funding cuts because we are not particularly funded very well in the first place. We hope that the legions of faceless email senders who make our lives unbearable with their constant badgering and micromanagement will be fired, thus freeing up countless car parking spaces at the nick. We hope to see the back of the Diversity Monitoring & Training Department, the endless Crime & Performance Analysts, the Crime Audit Teams and the layers of Neighbourhood Chief Inspectors.
Our message to the new Conservative government from the front line is twofold: Firstly, well done and thank God, secondly; we have plenty of cash and plenty of people. It’s just that the cash is wasted and the people are deployed in non-jobs. If you don’t believe this, look at the job titles of almost anyone working at NPIA in London.
Cut out all the Blears/Harman claptrap and put them all back where they belong; on the street catching criminals. Either that or give them their marching orders.

Interesting article on BBC, (yes the BBC!) this morning regarding overtime payments. You gotta wonder if the BBC are crapping themselves about the new Govt and trying to start dissing Nu Labia regime in order to ingratiate themselves with CMD!

a most encouraging post. I hope there are enough Police like you around and not too many of the Labour-politicised Borg variety. In our van this evening, we were discussing what the new regime might mean for policing here in Ruralshire, and we decided as follows:

Perhaps you could send them a strongly worded e-mail?

I know of one force looking for a reduction in police officers (NOT pcso's) of 25% in the next year and then another 15% in the year after that.
Insp. Gadget may be partaking of a little too much wishful thinking.
overtime might have risen due to the amount of paperwork and general fannying around that they now have to complete.Insp. Gadget may be partaking of a little too much wishful thinking.

Remember the ECHR and the many Lawyers, usually Legal Aid funded, itching to take cases there.
Please understand, Legal Aid work is NOT done for the money, it pays a lot less than a lawyer (Solicitor or barrister) can earn otherwise. Please also understand that a junior criminal barrister could earn 10-12k in their first year which considering they spent 3-4 years at Uni then a year at Bar School (which costs say 12k just for the course), to then only earn what is not a huge salary.coanda said:

Another Force planning a reduction of 15% of Officers and 22% Police Staff. A total freeze on recruiting across the board.Insp. Gadget may be partaking of a little too much wishful thinking.
All this was happening while Gordy was standing up and saying he 'would protect frontline Police'.
I just want to do my job without being a slave to 'blue sky thinking' personnel Officers and other PC nonsense.

...and, largely, we want you to do just that, rest assured. No, we don't want the cops to become Gene Hunt, however much we enjoy his exploits. But we do want you to be able to get on with the job without having to piss about too much. Accountable, yes. Handcuffed, no...
