That's odd. Didn't Jackboot Jacqui tell us people were stopping her in the street to say what a good idea ID cards were?

Not too soon compadre. It will still have it's advocates and at some point, we may be ready to go again.

At least it postpones my show-down with the state.

........for the "live-in friends" and skivvies of the Labour cabinet members. As it would show up that they are employing and befriending illegals (Smith, Mandleson more no doubt).

Possibly, allegedly, caveats etc..

"It wants to "roll back" powers it says were taken by the state under Labour and has pledged to defend trial by jury, restore rights to non-violent protest, end the storage of internet and email records without good reason, introduce safeguards against the "misuse" of anti-terrorism legislation.
The new government also wants extra safeguards over the retention of people's DNA by the police".

2 pints and a spliff...

Yep, this is the FIRST thing I think of when I am hearing the commentators saying they have to find £6 Billion from somewhere...... I wish CMD would just say, well, scrapping the ID cards saves us £8-10Billion, so problem solved.....

The totalitarian state has been slowed...

but keep an eye over your shoulder.

Government are just figureheads, this does not mean the 'end' for all our fears.

The 'establishment' can cobble up anything out of nothing.

Watch out for 'a threat to this country's national security has meant we 'now have to look again at ID cards'.

You heard it here first.

Have some bedside reading to keep you alert.

I recommend the book by the foreigner (well, a dual-nationality young American woman) who uncovered the expenses scandal (it wasn't the Telegraph, they just published it). If not bedside, then def incredible holiday reading.

The Silent State: Secrets, Surveillance and the Myth of British Democracy.

half price on amazon with free p/p where I got my copy

I love them already

My details are on there because of an accusation from a chav which was later proved to be unfounded, I wasn't charged or convicted of any offence.

If they overhaul the police and stop them marching you in to a station and sticking things in your mouth before they actually interview you so much the better too.

But they should start by deleting your DNA details... but they won't!
Read the book I mentioned and you'll understand why we will be incredibly lucky if any of this happens. What CMD and Clegg 'want' is not the same as it 'happening'!
Wait and see.

I never really understood the need for these in the first place, I already carry a photographic driving licence with me pretty much everywhere and even if they did come out, surely it would take about 3 days for them to be cloned and abused rendering them totally pointless!

They may be off the agenda at the present. I have a funny feeling we haven’t herd the last of them yet though.

The dumbest part was that they were going to let photographic shops make them. You'd only need a few corrupt shops and the whole system would be a joke.
