Just thinking out loud... imagine a lib dem is made home secretary (plausible)... we need more tax revenue... almost no one would *really* care were it to be made legal... what are the chances?

There are few things in life I am more certain of than Cannabis remaining prohibited.

Slim to non. I dont think Cameron would let it go through. Be interesting to have a proper debate on it, rather than just "OMG Drugs"........

FFS, who gives a damn? Of all the problems facing this country, do you really think that cannabis is the most important thing that we should be worrying about?

You must be a druggie? Do you drive?

Well, depending on whose estimates you believe, the UK cannabis market is worth somewhere between 1 and 6 billion quid annually. We could do with a slice of that revenue currently.

rofl

I can't tell if this post is dripping in irony, or just ridiculous

Anyway I have no interest in debating the merits of drug policy, this is about what may happen.

Do you have any idea how much electricity it consumes?

Last time I checked there was VAT on utilities...

I disagree. Most people can't be arsed to grow their own, otherwise they'd do it now.

I think there's a massive potential tax revenue that's being missed out on.

one plant over 10 weeks gives you around 6-7 oz of ganja, plenty of people will be arsed and who's going to pay tax when you can just get some off a friend

Yup.

People can brew their own beers too, most people don't because it's easier to just buy a 6 pack from the shops.

Legalise it!

Yes, a lovely one but even short flowering varieties don't grow well outside in the UK.

Whether you are right or wrong would surely depend on the retail price of shop-ganja?

put a greenhouse up then. trust me there would be enough small time growers to supply the demand, and then what are you going to do? ban it again?

Well. I'd be arsed if it wasn't for the prospect of discovery, PRISON and the ruining of the rest of my life.

HTH.

i need to stop all this quoting so in response to martial arts man yes the retail price of shop weed will come into it heavily, but i don't think there would be that much profit to be made.

these 1-6 billion pound estimates are due to tokers paying £10 for their 1.5 grammes menches, either the price goes down so much that the industry vastly reduces in value or people will start growing fields of the stuff
