Sorry for the thread title folks, I felt that a bit of curiosity would work wonders.

Is it not time that William Hague was brought forth to lead the Conservative Party?

He is by far the most incisive and eloquent speaker the party has had for many a year, the fact that he was party leader before his time is now a superficial and irrelevant argument.

In any debate he is by far the intellectual superior of the 'toff' plastic wker who is leading the party at the moment, I think that now is his time.

Opinions please?

I will call you on this, Billy Hague is one of the most eloquent Parliamentary speakers of recent years IMHO, I have always believed that he has always been a better candidate than the false plastic CMD to promote the conservative party to take the UK out of the st box which it is in at the moment.

Perchance you disagree, please explain to me whar qualities CMD has ovetr William Hague?

I don't disagree, I think Hague was the best leader we never had.

What I am saying is in the tv age image is important, most people voted for blair because he was young and good looking, most people didn't vote for kinnock because he was a ginger slap head.

Show people a speech on tv and then play the same to them on radio their opinions will be vastly different.

Of course if they can get in bring him back but put a bag over his head till you have won biggrin

Edited for fat fingers

Possibly second best, Enoch still holds number one.

I voted for the other David but these days it's style over substance.

No harm if the likes of Hague, Fox, Pickles are guiding Cameron.

Anybody would be better than the current incumbant.

I think that Tony Blair was responsible for Cameron's selection as party leader.

When Blair knew that Brown was going to succeed him, he realised that Labour would lose the next election and his legacy could be destroyed. So... the crafty bugger had a devout disciple installed as leader of the Conservatives. Clever, eh?

I doubt it would really reduce his vote much amongst the die-hard blue rinsers, and it might enhance the Northern vote somewhat?

This.

Being a beer-swilling Yorkshire slaphead is not detrimental IMHO, it makes him more appealing to the floaters and not-sures.

A feature on Cameron in The Mail on Sunday on 18 March 2007 reported that on the day he was due to attend a job interview at Conservative Central Office, a phone call was received from Buckingham Palace. The male caller stated, "I understand you are to see David Cameron. I've tried everything I can to dissuade him from wasting his time on politics but I have failed. I am ringing to tell you that you are about to meet a truly remarkable young man."

His daughter goes to a state school.

Brown has barely shut up about Ashcroft. Putting Hague front and centre would be all Brown needs to bang on about Ashcroft for another week.

Its at least an indication of intelligence. All things being equal you would choose the smarter person for the job.
