When this happens how do we counter it?The only way i can see is to make it too risky a proposition to the criminals by relaxing home defense in a big way and where do you draw that line? Relax ownership of weapons? Allow ownership of defensive measures? (Where can i find a beartrap

Well, not really. The law of the land still applies in your house. I think it would be a can of worms if we were able to kill intruders, and would no doubt be manipulated. I don't see anything wrong with the system that we have, and today's case goes to show that the system works, although common sense is sometimes lacking.
